Five - Emma

Emma hadn't woken up until almost three in the afternoon that day, getting dressed and ready for nothing in particular through a haze of confusion and a headache.

When she had gone into the kitchen to make herself a much needed cup of tea Amanda was already there, hunched over the counter laying her head on her crossed arms.

"How are you doing this fine morning?" Emma was trying to sound cheery even though she felt dead inside.

Amanda replied with a middle finger. Emma opened a cabinet to dig for a few acetaminophen, popped a couple in her mouth and sat a few more by Amanda's head. Amanda picked her head up and smiled at Emma in a silent thank you. "I don't know what kind of shit we drank last night but I think I saw Taylor Swift."

Emma laughed but didn't respond, still uncertain of if the whole thing was real or a drunken fantasy. While waiting for the kettle to boil Emma had pulled her phone out from her pocket and looked through the notifications. Most were spam emails and texts or notifications from random apps but one text stood out to her.

Unknown number

It was so wonderful to meet you tonight. I had so much fun. Do you want to get coffee?

Emma

Who is this?

Unknown number

Come to the coffee shop behind the mall and find out.

Emma

The one on Willow street?

Unknown number

Yes ;)

Emma shut her phone off and laughed a full bubbly laugh. She was actually considering going to this coffee shop to find out who this person was that she had apparently met last night. She remembered bits and pieces of the prior night starting from when she and Amanda had taken a couple shots in the car before heading into the nice building. Other than that she remembered a lot of cats. Or maybe it was just one cat. She wasn't entirely sure.

The coffee shop was in a nice part of the suburbs, one of those places that had large gates welcoming you in and security standing outside some of the fancier stores. It was always bustling with people so Emma figured she should be okay to go and meet whoever was texting her.

"Mandy I'm heading out, I'm going to meet someone. Want me to bring you back anything?"

"No." Amanda's voice was now muffled because she had now gone back to laying her head on the cool countertop.

Emma grabbed her purse and keys and headed to her car. Once in the car she locked her doors and sat her things down, double checking her phone to be sure this person hadn't texted again. The phone was empty.

The drive to the mall was only thirty minutes which, given traffic inside the city, was practically a miracle. Emma had gotten out of her car and locked it before heading inside towards the very back. The coffee shop wasn't so much behind the mall as it was hidden in the very back with a small door leading to outside that could easily be mistaken for an employee-only entrance to any other store. It was usually a safer bet to just walk through the mall.

When Emma walked in the coffee shop it was packed. There was at least one person sitting at every table, couch, or barstool in the place. Emma looked around to try and spot the person she was supposed to be meeting. Everyone looked as though they were preoccupied with whatever they were doing. Most people were sitting in groups talking to each other over a cup of tea or coffee.

The people sitting alone also looked busy. Three people sat with computers out typing away, probably doing something for work or school. An elderly man sat in a barstool by the large window overlooking the mall, watching people pass by and eating a sandwich. A bleach blonde sat in the corner at a small table with her head buried in her phone.

A boy with dark brown hair walked into the restaurant looking from corner to corner as if looking for someone. Emma thought for a moment that he could be looking for her but his eyes skipped right over her and landed on a woman holding hands with a toddler. He smiled a big smile and walked over to the toddler, scooping her into his arms and giving her a hug. The little girl threw a fit of laughter and hugged him back.

Emma still couldn't figure out who it was for the life of her. Other than the boy no one here seemed to have any interest in what other people were doing.

Emma

I'm here. Where are you?

Almost as soon as Emma had sent the text the blonde woman's head perked up and she turned around to smile and wave at Emma. Emma walked towards her still uncertain of who she was because of the sunglasses that were way too big for her face. It looked as though an infant had put on their mothers oversized sunglasses.

"I'm Emma but you probably know that. Are you the one who asked me to meet you here?" The other girl nodded and Emma sat down across from her. She took off her sunglasses and Emma's eyes widened as she finally got a good look at the girl's face. Emma made a sound that could only be described as if a bullfrog had choked on water. A few heads turned her direction and she apologized and waved them off.

"I'm Taylor. You painted my cat Meredith and we hung out at the party last night."

"I know who you are. I somewhat remember meeting you last night but I thought I was just extremely drunk."

"You were, but only for some of it. You seemed sober enough until we started taking shots."

Emma shook her head. "I took shots with my friend in the car before we went in. I really didn't want to be there. I just didn't know how to say no, but from what I remember I did have fun. I didn't drive home did I?" Emma's face had turned red trying to figure out how she got home. Her car was there but she didn't think she drove. Amanda was certainly in no shape to drive either.

"No, I had someone drive you home. I did have a lot of fun last night too, we hung out for most of the time. I thought maybe we should do it again?" Taylor gave a small smile and tried to make the last sentence sound like a question.

"I would like that." Emma stared at Taylor for a minute before rubbing her eyes. "I'm sorry, are you Taylor Swift or am I still drunk?" Emma could see Taylor in front of her clear as day but she still thought something had to be off. Maybe she was still drunk. Or dreaming? She was definitely dreaming.

Taylor laughed and nodded a yes. "Is that a yes?"

Now it was Emma's turn to nod. "Maybe with a little less alcohol this time so I can remember it?"

Taylor laughed again and smiled at Emma.

AN: I have two different plot ideas for this story and am trying to decide if I want to do the more dramatic one or not. I probably will because I am dramatic and like dramatic things but I'm only like 98% sure. Thanks for reading <3
