"An empty tank will take you exactly no where."

Miles POV

Of course, Miles was running late to English.

No one was awake and ready for school this morning. The twins were as helpful as can be but none of them were really up for school.

Today was just a hard day.

They've known for awhile there parents were dead but now trying to find a new routine without them...it left them all floundering.

But Willow was pushing not going.

Honestly...it was really breaking Miles's heart. He wasn't sure how much he could take of her not wanting to go to school seeing his little sister hurt...

Even the twins were recluse about it.

"Miles, late three times. That's becoming a habit-" Mrs. Johnson said loudly looking off put as he came into the room. He knew she cared about him. It's why she was so hard about it because, at the end of the day, she wouldn't give him a detention but she knew other teachers would. So she pushed.

"Am I late or are you all early?" Miles shot back an exaggerated smile tilting across his lips.

Mrs. Johnson crossed her arms. "Class started fifteen minutes ago."

"And you didn't wait for me?" Miles brought a hand to his chest gasping, "I-I can't believe this do I mean nothing? Is this the end of me?"

Snickers rang throughout the classroom even Mrs. Johnson cracked a smile looking at him fondly. "Butt in seat Miles."

"But I'm standing-"

"Miles just sit down," Half the class cried out different variations of telling him to sit making him jump in amusement.

"Oh my gosh okay! Okay!" He exclaimed as he moved towards his seat row closest to the door forth one back. A green backpack was on his chair making him frown. He opened his mouth to complain when he saw a hand reach for it. His eyes moved finding green eyes that locked with his own. Kota.

The boy smiled at him giving a friendly wave as he pushed up his glasses.

Miles couldn't help but be surprised by the gesture.

A warm feeling came to his heart Kota had kept a seat for him. He felt his cheeks flush a confused expression coming into his face.

He blinked slowly sinking into the seat not taking his eyes off Kota. The boy didn't seem to deter under his stare. No in fact it seemed like the other teenager was analyzing him. His eyes roamed over each other's face.

"Oy," Gabe's voice broke Miles and Kota's stare down. He couldn't help but almost be glad. He had spoken with Kota before. But mainly it was Miles's teasing. So far the boy had tried to offer friendship. But Miles denied it.

This was the first moment that he felt he really truly took in Kota. He knew the boy had liked to stay on task but his eyes had a more serious calculated look that he just hadn't noticed before.

Probably because in Miles's mind he was trying to keep as much distance between himself and the others as possible. He joked and teased and chatted with them briefly in class but they didn't speak of anything serious.

He had completely taken them in.

They were just the new kids.

He was just being friendly.
