Chapter 11: Questionning

As today is Wednesday, you go home early. Strangely enough, you have to wait for a while before your brother shows up at the school's entrance.

" - Where were you?

- I had to do something, sorry for being late.

- It's fine. Let's go."

When you want to say goodbye to Charles, you can't find him anywhere. You shrug and leave with Brian.

" - What stopped you from joining us during the break?

- I was busy.

- What were you busy with?

- It doesn't matter."

As you step into your street, you turn back and doesn't see your new friend anywhere.

"I guess he just left before us."

" - Oh, I forgot to ask Mom and Dad if I could bring Charles home.

- Well, I also have to ask them to go at a friend's place.

- You didn't tell me about that.

- You don't need to know everything.

- True. You can ask first.

- Thanks."

You enter the house and see more Halloween decorations everywhere. You remove your school bag from your shoulders and place it in your bedroom. Then, you immediately go to the dinning room.

" - Hello Mom, hello Dad, hello Aurelia.

- Hello, you two, they reply."

You sit down around the table and start eating your lunch.

" - How was this short day?

- Pretty well. I made a new friend.

- That's amazing! Who are they?

- It's Charles.

- Congrats! I'm happy that you are friends with your class partner. How about you, Brian?

- Well, nothing much. Just a normal school day.

- Really? Nothing special?

- No, nothing. By the way, is it okay if I stay at Nathan's house for the afternoon?

- Nathan?

- Yeah, one of my friends.

- You've never told us about a Nathan, though.

- I have some secret friendships that you don't know about, hehe. Anyway, is it good for you?

- Sure. When will you come back?

- I'll be here around 6 PM.

- Okay, sounds good to me. Do you want us to drive you there?

- No thanks, I'll go on foot.

- Mom, as Brian will leave, is it okay if I invite Charles over?

- Sure! It will be nice to meet him. Where does he live?

- A few houses ahead.

- Really? So close? That's amazing! Well, I'll let you get him.

- Alright. See you in a minute. And you, Brian, see you this evening.

- Yep, see you!"

He rushes out of the house before you, making you wondering why he would be in such a hurry. You shrug and follow him, only to find that he's already gone.
