Chapter 6: A strange visitor

When you head back home with your brother, all you can think about is how you will avoid the new student as much as possible. Alas, the teacher thought it was a good idea to make you his class partner.

"Biggest mistake ever made."

You look at Brian.

" - Hey man, I forgot to tell you that things are now clear between Raven and me.

- Really? Amazing!

- Moreover, she said you were good-looking.

- What? No, you're winding me up.

- I swear I'm not! She just needs some time to recover from her heartbreak.

- That's absolutely understandable. I'll wait."

You smile a little but still think about the creepy newcomer.

" - Damn, I can't stop thinking about someone and I don't like it.

- Oooh, you've got a crush on someone?

- What the fuck? No! He's just the new student in my class.

- Oh yeah, Charles."

You stop, surprised.

" - Wait, you know him?

- Of course! Everyone in my class does.

- How so?

- Last weekend, some of my friends and I saw him at the skatepark while you were at the festival with Dad.

- Don't you think he's a bit... weird?

- I mean, his eyes are kinda disturbing, but he seems to be a cool guy."

You shrug.

"I feel like something's wrong about him no matter what."

You step into the house and are welcomed by your sister.

" - Brian! [Y/n]!

- Hello, Aurelia. How are you?

- I'm fine! And you?

- We're okay, thanks."

You place your bag in your room and have a shower, followed by your brother. Then, you have supper.

"We have a new student in our class now."

Your father raises an eyebrow.

" - Really?

- Yes. His name is Charles.

- I like that name, your mother comments. What does he look like?

- Well, imagine a tall boy with pale skin, short black hair and big black eyes with teeth that are perfectly white. That's him.

- Brian, isn't he the young man you met yesterday?

- Yeah, that's him.

- Wonderful! You are already acquaintances.

- You know what's worse? I'm his class partner.

- What's wrong with that? You should be proud of having that responsibility.

- Mom, he's a bit... intimidating.

- What makes you say that?

- His eyes and his smile are a bit unsettling.

- You just need to learn more about him. I'm sure you'll like him in no time.

- Yeah, sure."

After dinner, you go to your room and get dressed to go to bed.

A couple of hours later, you are woken up by a strange sound. You sit up and look around, trying to find the origins of the unknown noise. When you try to turn the light on, it doesn't work. Fortunately, you recall having a flashlight in your bedside table. You open the first drawer and find it immediately. You turn it on and look around, only to find that everything in the room seems to be as it should. 

You get out of bed and walk towards the door. You carefully open it and hear someone breathing.

"Brian? If this is a prank, you better stop that and get back to your room!"

No one answers. You point the light in the hallways only to be face to face with a horrific monstrosity looking like the creepy disguised man you saw yesterday.

He looks down at you and gets closer. You step back and slam the door, then run back to your bed and hide beneath the sheets. You hear the door being opened, then closed again, soon followed by steps coming towards the bed. You feel someone pulling the blanket down, revealing your terrified face.

"Wh-what do you want from me?!"

The creature places one of his hooked fingers on your lips.

"Sh-hh-hh... The n-nightmare is ju-just be-eginni-i-ing..."

Then he walks out of the room, closing the door behind him.
