Chapter 10: Doubt

When you wake up for another school day, all you want to do is go back to sleep. After seeing Charles stalking you yesterday and talking with Nightmarionne last night, you don't want to attend class. However, you know you have no choice. You sigh and get out of bed.

" - Morning, Brian.

- Morning, [Y/n]. You look tired again.

- Reminiscing about yesterday kept me up all night.

- Still brooding what happened?

- Of course! I'm scared to meet him again.

- What if Mom was right?

- What?!

- I don't know... Like, she could have been right, maybe he was just going in the same direction. This is probably how he discovered where we live.

- I have a bad feeling about this...

- Look, if you feel uncomfortable with that, just tell him. What could happen?

- I don't even want to think about it."

He shrugs.

"I just think it's a coincidence."

When you are at school, you don't see Charles at first but are welcomed by Raven again.

" - Hello, [Y/n]!

- Hi! Is Charles here?

- Not yet. Hey, Brian! Do you want to spend time with us during the break?

- Sorry, I can't.

- Oh, it's fine."

You raise an eyebrow, looking at your brother. He replies with a little embarrassed smile and quickly leaves.

" - Is everything okay between the two of you?

- Yes, don't worry. I think that he doesn't want to meet Charles either, that's all.

- Did something bad happen?

- Well, I believe he stalked us on our way back home.

- Really?

- Yeah. However, he told me this morning that he thinks it was just a coincidence and that he was just going the same path as us and nothing else. What surprises me the most is that we were on the same page yesterday.

- That sounds weird... You should talk to Charles and make things clear.

- Brian advised me the same thing. I'll do it, thank you.

- No problem. Look, here he comes!

- Speak of the devil..."

Your class partner approaches you.

" - Good morning. How are you?

- I'm fine, Raven answers. And you?

- I'm okay, thanks for asking. How about you, [Y/n]?

- I need to talk to you.

- Oh, am I having a special place in your heart?

- Wh-what?! No, that's not the kind of thing I want to talk about!

- Well, too bad. Anyway, what is it about?

- I'd rather tell you when we're alone. See you later, Raven.

You walk away with him and, as soon as no one is around you anymore, you confront him.

" - What's wrong with you?

- Do I give the list in alphabetical or chronological order?

- I'm not joking, Charles! Do you think I didn't see you stalking Brian and me yesterday?

- Me? Stalking you? Why would I do that?

- I'm the one who should be asking! You're just being weirder by doing that!

- What makes you say I "stalked" you, huh?

- You followed us to our house.

- Wrong: I followed the path leading to your house because I live in the same street as you.

- We can be friends if you want to.
