Chapter 1

Crystal's POV
Run. Was the only thing on my mind. I ran from my father today and I plan on staying away from him, forever. I ran until I was 100% sure I was safe. Ok, now I can turn human again. Wait, what!?! Why can't I change back!?!? Wait, please don't tell me the legend is true!!! No no no!! I can't handle this right now!! Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait and lay low. I huffed and went to a cardboard box. I laid down and closed my eyes. I felt the comforting darkness welcome me and I followed it.

~2 weeks later~

Man, finding food is hard!! I dug through every trash can and there is nothing!! I started heading back to my box. I went to cross the road, until I saw a bright light and and felt a sharp pain course through me. I looked around and saw a car zooming passed and turning a corner. Great. OWW!!!! Ok maybe moving was a bad idea. Come on Crystal, you have to get up. I tried once again and fell back down, in pain. I'm pretty sure a few ribs are broken and my leg is in a pretty banged up shape. I hugged and tried to get up once again. DAMN IT!!!! The pain started getting worse and it was becoming unbearable. I started whining and howling, hoping someone would help me. Yet again they could send me to the animal control. Damn. I'm in deep shit. I heard footsteps and then delft someone touch me. I cried out in pain and they immediately jerked away. They moved to where they were in front of me. I took a good look at them. It was a guy, around my age, very handsome, brown hair, greasy hair, and brown eyes. Oh his eyes are so dreamy. We made eye contact and it felt like my entire universe exploded.
"Hey, it's ok. I'm going to take care of you." He says. I whine in response and he gently picked me up. He carried me to a store type thing and when we walked in, there was people in white coats. Oh no, I'm in an animal hospital. Just perfect.
"Help please." He calls. A man in a white uniform came up to us.
"What happened?" Asks the man.
"I don't know, I was walking home and then I found her on the side of the road." He says.
"Ok, I'll see what I can do, but she is a wild animal. I might have to put her down if she doesn't correspond with us."
"Yes sir." He says. He takes me into a room and the doctor started his work.
"What is you name??" Asks the doctor.
"Sodapop Curtis."
"Ok, well Sodapop, she's in real bad shape. Two broken ribs and she pulled a muscle in her leg. It looks like she was hit by a car." Says the doctor.
"So, will she be alright?" Asks Soda.
"Yes, but we can't have a wild animal here and I don't know what to do with her."
"I can keep her. I mean look at her, she hasn't tried to buy you or hurt you in anyway. Could we possibly do some tests and see if she is alright with going home with me?"
"I guess so." Says the doctor. He finishes up his work and takes me to another room. Soda follows and stays behind the doctor. The doctor did a lot of tests and I didn't act in a bad way in anyway.
"See, she's not going to hurt us. So can I keep her?"
"Yes, I'll get the papers." says the doctor as he leaves.
"Man, what is Darry gonna say?" Soda says out loud, worriedly. The doctor came back with the papers and handed them to Soda.
"What is your name??" He asks out loud. I looked for anything pointing to Crystal. Yay!! I found a rock that they used to see if I was bad. I barked and pointed to the rock.
"Rock?" He asks. I shook my head and he kept guessing. When he said Crystal, I barked and wagged my tail, eventually howling.
"Crystal it is." He says. He handed the papers back to the doctor and we left. When we arrived at a house, Soda turned to me and rubbed his fingers through my fur.
"I don't know if you understand me, but I need you to stand behind me until I say you can come out." He says. I nod and stayed behind him. He smiled and opened the door.
"Where have you been?? You are 2 hours late!" Exclaims someone.
"I gotta tell you something. On my way home, I saw this wolf in the middle of the road, injured. I took the wolf to the animal hospital and got her fixed. The doctor said the wolf wasn't harmful and a real sweetie. I couldn't let her stay there alone. I promise I will take care of her and she is really sweet. Come on girl." He says. I step out, limping, and face two other guys.
"You what!?!" Asks the bigger one.
"Please Darry, she really needs this. I can take care of her, I can feed her some of my food, I can take her out, and you won't have to spend a dime in her. Please." Says Soda. Darry looks at him to me and back to Soda. I limped over to Darry and rubbed my head on his knee. I gave him my best puppy dog face and he seemed to be buying it.
"What's her name?" Asks Darry.
"Crystal." Replies Soda, very happily. Darry nods and the other boy seemed really scared. I felt it, I felt his vibes towards me. He was really scared. I started limping towards him and the more I did the more his heart beat went faster. I walked towards him slowly and carefully. I jumped on the couch and laid my head on his lap. He seemed to become more relaxed after that.
"She likes you Ponyboy." Says Soda. Ponyboy smiled and gently strike my fur. I think I'm going to like it here. I yawned and closed my eyes. I fell into deep slumber.
