Nova~
What the HELL happened to you Beau?"
She said as she began to walk into his room. He wasn't dead but he sure as hell looked like he was. He walked away from her and stuffed something that seemed to be a piece of paper on his dresser into his pocket.
"Nothing." He responded dryly.
He was back to the one-word responses. Just when she had a little hope that this bodyguard thing would be fun.
"You're not serious right? I leave for one second and suddenly someone has almost left you unable to walk. You can't just sit here looking like you're about to croak and then tell me everything's fine." She said half joking.
He turned around and looked her in the eye.
"God, you didn't even bandage your wounds or anything. Please tell me you have a first aid kit Pour l'amour de Dieu."
She examined his wounds from afar before rushing to go get her own medical kit and some aloe Vera ice roller that she'd usually use for her face. She returned back with everything in hand.
He stood at the window staring like he was watching for something. "Sir no one is coming to kill me in broad daylight now can you please sit" she said.
He just stood there looking but she knew he had heard her. "Sit down" she said sternly. He sighed and sat down on his bed beside her.
She opened up the kit and immediately put alcohol on a cotton ball. Without hesitation she put it directly on the bruise that rested on his stomach.
He quickly sucked air through his teeth with a slight whimper. She looked up at him with an unamused look to hide the slight blush creeping up on her cheeks.
Lani would just loveeee this Nova thought.
She continued to rub alcohol on each cut, but She couldn't help but examine his frame and face as she took care of him.
Honestly it felt a little good to take care of someone instead of taking care of herself or someone taking care of her. Everyone treated her like she was incapable of making anything for herself or straying from just her family's legacy.
I mean her ancestors were captains and war hero's and people who had purposes. People who actually knew their purpose. She was just a 21-year-old who snuck out to get away from the life they made for her.
Sometimes she felt bad for not doing something important like they'd want her to. She never knew her purpose and she couldn't even begin to think about it.
Deep down she knew it was true, but she didn't want it to be. She wanted to be her own self, not what someone else wanted her to be.
She took out the ice roller and moved it in circles around each bruise. She moved up to the one that rested on his cheek. "So do you want to tell me what happened now or are you just going to hide this deeply important information from me?" she got no response but a faint grunt
All she could do was sigh as she bandaged cloth squares on his torso and bandaids on his face. She looked at him as if proud of her work as she went to grab an ice pack from her mini fridge in her room next door.
She walked back into his room to give him the ice pack then she planned to fully leave him alone and give him the day off after that.
She entered and saw him holding the same piece of paper she watched him stuff into his pocket. She snuck up behind him getting a slight look at what it said but she could barely see so she just asked.
"What's that?" He quickly tried to stuff it back into his pocket, but his injuries made him slower than usual. He was fatigued and she knew. She grabbed it immediately and ran across the room knowing it hurt him to even chase her. She quickly read it and her smile dropped ever so slightly.
"Oh" she said.
"Nova." Beau said sternly.
She looked it over and under and up and down and her eyes slowly stung seeing the words. He slowly moved towards her to take it away.
She quickly bit her lip and he slightly removed the paper from her hand and slipped it into his pocket once again. She looked up at him with a smile.
"It's just another threat to the princess honestly it's not that serious. Oh God, everyone is making this such a big deal for no reason. I get empty threats all the time this is nothing" she said quickly.
"Take the rest of the day off Beau" she smiled faintly and rushed off into her room. As soon as she got into her room she let out a short breath.
Then came more short breaths. And more and more and more. She couldn't breathe. She didn't understand. This was just another threat.
She'd gotten hundreds if not thousands of threats but that's just what happens When you're a princess. Shit happens and people say shitty things.
But this was different, and she knew it. It was like there was something blocking her from breathing. This wasn't another empty threat, and someone was coming for her, to hurt her.
She wasn't stupid. She could connect the dots and she knew that whoever wrote the note did that to Beau and that they were in the palace.
They were in her home. They got in past the palace security and they even escaped her highly trained bodyguard. Just imagine what they would do if they got their hands on her.
Thoughts were running around her mind like a carousel.
Nova had always had anxiety as a kid and her parents got her professional help at a young age and in some ways it worked.
She'd learned helpful tips to deal with it like the 5 4 3 2 1 method. "Okay. okay. okay. okay. 5 things I can see" she said through short breaths and tears.
" I can see...fuck I can see my bed uhm" she tried to name them off to help her, but she quickly realized it just wasn't helping. She dug her nails into her hands to stop her from focusing on the pain of her thoughts. She brought back her breath with a deep inhale.
She sat on the floor for a little longer thinking about her life.
Nova was well aware that she was fortunate to be the princess but she just wished things were simple.
