My anxiety was heightened again, walking around the facility. One slip up, and we were done. We couldn't afford any mistakes.
When we got to the elevator, Teresa scanned her ID, and we waited. It was taking a frustratingly long time. Thomas was getting agitated and kept pushing the button to speed it up.
It finally opened, and we went inside. I wasn't the biggest fan of elevators. They made me feel claustrophobic, but we didn't have another choice. We had to appear as normal as possible.
Just as the doors were closer, a hand jammed through it, and they opened again. Janson's hand "Hold it." He stood next to Teresa.
Thomas's grip on his gun tightened.
"You're working late." The Ratman spoke to Teresa "See that's what I like about you Teresa, no matter how bleak things get, you just never give up."
He was barely two feet away from me. I could do it now. It would only take a second, and Newt would be evenged. But blowing our cover wasn't a good idea, not before we had Minho.
"Ava didn't want me to tell you, but I feel like you should know. Thomas is here."
Me and Thomas slowly turned to look at each other. Fuck.
"The scanners caught him outside the city. He'll probably try to contact you, and if he does, I'd like to think I'd be your first call."
"Are you going to kill him?" She asked.
"Would that be a problem?"
The elevator dinged, thankfully.
"This is me." She said, walking out. I followed after.
We were walking with more urgency now. Time was ticking. Teresa was talking, but we weren't really listening. "Thomas, getting that serum won't save Newt. It might buy him some time, but -"
"Just ignore her she's trying to get inside your head." I pushed her forward to move quicker.
Thomas stopped at a door. "Open it."
She opened the door. "Please just listen to me. There's something about your blood I don't understand. If you let me run some tests, I can protect you."
He pulled off his mask, letting it fall on the floor. Then he snapped. "Yeah? Like you protected Minho?"
"What are you doing!" I asked. Anyone could see him, and then this whole place would be on lockdown.
"How many people is it gonna take? How many are you gonna round up, torture, kill? When the hell does it stop?"
"It stops when we find a cure."
"There is no god damn cure!"
I could see that hit in a nerve in Teresa, but it also hit me too. Deep down, knowing there probably wasn't even a cure, meant that whatever chance I was hoping for that Newt could be saved, was gone.
"Don't waste your time, Teresa." Janson was pointing a gun at him.
Guards started approaching from all directions. I pointed my gun at them, ready to shoot. We were outnumbered.
"Tell them to back off." Thomas pointed his gun at him. He too realised, that there were too many of them. Suddenly, he grabbed Teresa, holding the gun to her head. "Tell them to back off Janson!"
"Thomas, I've known you for longer than you can remember. You're not gonna shoot her."
"You don't think so?"
He twisted a smirk and dropped his gun in his hand. "Fine, shoot her."
Thomas didn't move. His hand twitching.
"Prove me wrong."
As I looked around us, there was no way out. We were stuck. Whether Thomas shot her or not, there was no getting out of this one.
"Shoot her."
Teresa elbowed Thomas and pushed us both behind the glass door, closing it. Janson fired at the glass, but it didn't break. I removed my mask, taking a good look at the Ratman, throwing my middle finger up at him before following Thomas.
