Suspect list

After your class, you received a text from Mindy, instructing everyone to meet up outside the school. You knew exactly why she wanted to gather everyone – it was her way of redeeming herself for not identifying the killers the last time.

Heading outside, you spotted the group sitting on a bench, and you waved as you approached. "Hey, guys," you greeted, taking a seat next to Ethan. A chorus of greetings followed.

Mindy quickly seized everyone's attention. "Okay, nerds, listen up! As terrifying as this all is, I'm actually glad I can redeem myself for not calling the killers last time."

You couldn't help but roll your eyes internally. There she goes again, obsessing about predicting who the killers might be. You vividly remembered last year when she mistakenly suspected you as the killer. She was clearly not always accurate.

You began to zone out, losing interest, until Mindy's words snapped you back to attention. "Any of us could go, at any time... especially Sam, Tara, and Y/n."

Ethan shot you a genuinely sad look, but then he turned his gaze to Mindy, as if remembering something he wanted to ask.

"Wait, any of us?" he queried.
"Yeah," Mindy replied.
"Am I in the friend group?" Ethan asked.
"Yeah."
"Am I, like, one of the targets?" he inquired further.
"Mhm."

"Am I gonna die a virgin?" Ethan asked.
"Maybe Y/n can fix that," Quinn teased. You blushed and looked away, embarrassed.

"Hey, that's inappropriate," Ethan chided, clearly flustered.

Mindy continued her monologue, her voice taking a more serious tone. "That was a weird overshare, which brings us to our current suspect: Ethan."

Your brows furrowed in confusion. "Ethan. The shy, dorky guy, who no one suspects because he's so shy and dorky."

"Wait, Ethan? He wouldn't hurt a fly," you defended, confident that Ethan couldn't possibly be involved. He had been with you the whole night.

"Um, remember the Halloween party? He punched that guy so hard that he fell to the ground because he was getting too handsy with you, Y/n," Chad argued.

Your shock was evident as you turned to Ethan, your cheeks flushing. You didn't recall that particular detail from the Halloween party. "You did that for me?" you asked in surprise.

"Of course. That guy was disgusting and wanted to take advantage of you," Ethan replied, his tone protective.

Despite this heartfelt revelation, Mindy continued to point fingers. "Cute moment and all, but, Ethan, you're still on my suspect list."

Ethan expressed his confusion, "What? Because I'm randomly Chad's roommate?"
"Roommate lotteries can be juked. You could've manipulated it to get close to us. Plus, never trust the love interest," Mindy theorized.

"What? I'm no one's love interest," Ethan objected, genuinely perplexed.
"Yeah, you are," Mindy declared.
"Whose?" he asked, completely caught off guard.
"Y/N!" everyone chimed in unison.

You turned bright red and quickly averted your gaze, hoping the conversation would take a different turn. After all, you and Ethan weren't even officially together. "Guys, chill. Can we just move on?" Sam intervened.

You couldn't fathom Ethan being Ghostface. He was simply too kind, and his motive was unclear. Secretly, you hoped this was all just an elaborate prank rather than a horrifying reality. As Mindy continued to speculate about potential suspects, you patiently waited for the conversation to shift to a more sensible topic.
