The intrusive ring of your phone shattered the silence of your surroundings. It's was Tara.

Uncertain whether to pick up, you finally gave in, your worry for Tara's safety outweighing your hesitation.

"Hello?" you answered, your voice a mix of concern and sadness.

"Hi, Y/n," Tara's voice came through, punctuated by a momentary pause. "Are you okay? You left without a word."

You opted to keep the events involving Ethan to yourself, not quite ready to tell her about that. "Yeah, I'm alright," you replied calmly.

"Just felt a bit tired, and, you know, I've been missing Anika."

"I see," Tara acknowledged. "Listen, we're having this hangout. It might do wonders for your mood, better than being alone."

Her invitation hung in the air, prompting you to consider the prospect.

Despite it all, you decided to cast aside those troubling thoughts. You figured, "Screw it, I've got more important things to fret over.

If today were my last, I refuse to let my final memories be tainted by tears shed over a worthless guy."

Summoning a burst of determination, you rose from your seat and carefully curated your finest outfit.

A touch of makeup and your hair styled in charming pigtails-half up, half down-gave you a boost. Although you weren't exactly on cloud nine, your spirits were lifted.

Though you didn't feel amazing, you did feel an improvement in your mood. Gathering your belongings and slipping into your shoes, you set out onto the bustling streets of New York City.

The journey to Sam's apartment was uneventful, which was exactly what you preferred at the moment. You look at your phone seeing a text from tara

Eventually arriving at your destination, you hesitated for a moment before knocking on the door. As you waited, you could feel your heart beginning to race, a mixture of excitement and nervousness bubbling up within you.

You found yourself torn between conflicting emotions-how would things be between you and Ethan?

What should I do? Should I talk to him?
Should I ignore him? Should I flirt with him? Or should I make him jealous? You thought.

You decided on the making him jealous one.

"Y/n, hello?" Tara's voice snapped you back to the present, her words cutting through the veil of your thoughts.

It seemed you hadn't even realized that she had already opened the door.

"Oh, yeah, sorry," you responded, shaking off your reverie.

Stepping inside, you cast a quick glance around the room. It was apparent that the gathering was in full swing, with not only your usual group present but also some unfamiliar faces, like Danny and Jack.
