Birthday Party

"Hey, I'll see you tonight, Alex!" Haley said from across the hall.

"Yeah! See you there." I said, smiling.

Tonight is Haley's birthday party, and of course, as her bestfriend, I was invited. We're gonna all have a great time, cake, karaoke, maybe even pin the donkey. Who knows! The possibilities are endless!

But what Haley doesn't know is that im planning to tell her my feelings about her, thats right, I have a crush on her. Ever since the 8th grade. But now, as a senior in highschool I'm ready to take the plunge and profess my love!

I already told some of my friends about it, so they know to let us have some alone time. I really owe them for doing this for me, if they do it right that is. But will Haley say yes? Or will she bitterly reject me without batting an eye? I hope for the former.

I opened the door to my house and walked in, head held high.

"Whats got you so upbeat, Alex?" My grandma asked.

"Oh, well, its Haleys birthday today."

"Is that so? Have you gotten her a gift?"

I stopped dead in my tracks and looked over at her. I-I forgot a gift! How could that be?! Was I so absorbed into telling her my feelings that I completely disregarded her present?

"How could I forget?" I sighed.

My grandma laughed and reached into her pocket, taking out a pearl necklace.

"I knew you'd forget, its alright." She said while handing me it.

I gasped in shock, "are you sure? I mean, isnt this yours?"

"Thats what makes it so special." She smiled.

I felt bad taking it, but she convinced me to keep it and give it to Haley. I'll pay her back someday, maybe I'll get her a new necklace. Just got to save up some money.

I headed to my room and sat down on my bed.

What should I wear, a suit? Nah thats too formal. Maybe I should wear something casual then? But then I don't want to seem like im not ready.

I rolled to my side and groaned, why do I have to overthink everything? I'll just keep what I'm wearing on for the party. I got up and looked at the clock, three hours til the party begins. I cant wait that long! Im awfully bored.

Ah wait, I'll just bother Sam! He always makes me... unbored.

I knocked on his door, waiting for him to answer. It took a solid minute for him to unlock the door and scurry out.

"Oh, hey Alex, whats up?" He said, standing in the doorway.

"Ah, nothing much. Just kind of bored so I came over here to mess with you." Sam snickered at the remark.

"Is that so? Waiting for the party, im guessing?"

"Sure as hell am."

He let me in and we headed for his room, not before talking a bit with Vincent and his mother.

"So, are you going to quote on quote profess your undying love for Haley?" He said jokingly.

"Haha! Well I'm planning to, if things go right." He nodded in a fashion that made me think he didn't understand. "I mean like, if there's a perfect time and a perfect atmosphere I will."

He gave me a face of doubt, "wow buddy, you sure are asking a lot. God will be straining to make that happen." I hit him on the shoulder and laughed.

We joked around and played video games, occasionally talking about the band Sam wants to create and my dreams of becoming a pro athlete. Both of which might or may not come true, crossing my fingers for us to not have our dreams crushed.

Sam and I have conflicting interests, to be frank. He's interested in rock and im interested in gridball, while I don't really like rock and he doesn't really like gridball.

How'd we even become friends? No clue. Sam told me he begged me to be his friend in elementary, but for the life of me I can't remember such a thing ever happening. Apparently I said no for a week until I finally gave in, why didn't I just say yes immediately?

[By the way, this is actually what my friend told me, and I thought it was pretty funny so I put it in the story.]

"Hey, Sam, its almost time to go." I said, looking at my watch.

"Ah, you're right, just 10 more minutes, huh?" He said, looking at my watch aswell.

I had to ask, "do you think my clothes are okay?" He scanned my outfit for a second and replied.

"It screams... Alex."

"Whats that supposed to mean?" I laughed.

"What do you want me to say? You look great, amazing, spectacular, handso-"

"Okay, okay!" We both chuckled.

We heard his mom yell at us to go before Haley gets impatient. We got up quickly and headed for the door. I'm ready to go and impress the ladies, or I guess lady. Singular not plural dumbass.
