Sonics head hung low, his eyes closed as he had a calm neutral expression on his face. His hands were in his lap as he fidgeted with a stick that was on the ground. Giving him something to mess with while he took the time to work through his thoughts. Knuckles was lying down watching the tree branches sway in the wind as the sun's rays peaked through the leaves. Sonic slowly opened his eyes exhaling slowly as he lifted his head up and looked out at the cliffside. His expression was somber as he quietly sat there.

His ear twitched and would change directions depending on the sounds around him. The small twig in Sonic's hands was still being used as a fidget as he thought. For around 20 minutes the two sat in silence.
However soon, Sonic broke the melody of the woods with his own voice. "...I was being stupid." He stated seriously.
Knuckles merely scoffed with a chuckle. " Psh- when aren't you"
Sonic flattened his ears making a small "heh" before continuing to speak as he shifted his body to face Knuckles." Knux, even tho... What I did, did save someone's life, it could've ended horribly for me."
Knuckles parted his eyes as Sonic's words piqued his interest. "...saved someone's life...don't you do that anyways...what's different from then and now...." He spoke as Knuckles sat up and brushed the dirt off of his dreads before looking at the Blue blur with a more concerned look.
Sonic scratched softly near the scar on his chest. "..well...during my mission with Shadow, Eggman did his usual shady stuff. Eggman tried to shoot this...weapon at Shadow, but Shadow was distracted. I heard and saw what was about to happen and took the shot for Shadow. However, in return, I got dang near impaled by a weird Harpoon thing..it felt like someone stabbed me with molten steel." Sonic spoke as he painted an expression of pain even tho he was not, as if thinking about it was enough to bring it back.
" It felt wrong like every part of my body was screaming all at once. I felt awful knowing I put myself in that reckless situation, but I had to, to save Shadow, I didn't even have the time to think and yell for Shadow to dodge I just had enough time to just act and DO it. I've not been that mortally wounded in an extremely long time. And it kinda shook me.. reminding me of the past, and all my other nearby brushes with death."
Knuckles smiled and put a hand on Sonic's shoulder. " We're heroes... We protect the defenseless, friends, and family. Brushes with death is gonna happen, no one will blame you."
He spoke raising a brow. " Besides... Looks like your wound already healed. Did Shadow heal you or something? I would've thought something like that would at least take a good week to heal...I'd know a thing or two about wounds. Heh- the moment I get any serious ones that leave me out of commission I'm counting the MINUTES to get back in action."
