All You Need is that First Spark From a Lighter To

I headed back outside trying to look for someone who went back to business after he left. I walked around a bit until I saw a man finally come back out from his store.

I went to him hurriedly asking, "Hey! Do you know the man that came? Why did everyone retreat? Who is that man?"

"Y/N, How do you not know him? He's a great ninja around these parts."

"But no one in the ninja would react with such a loud way. What's so different about him?"

"He rules around with a whip of fear. He cares for nothing but his own wants... Because of that, destruction almost always comes wherever he steps like a loyal servant. His name be Kotaro Fuma."

"How could someone like that be with the samurai? Aren't they supposed to protect? And ninja aren't supposed to be that outrageous for their sly job."

"While you are still young, I wish you don't continue to be so ignorant about situations revolving around our world. I understand you usually keep to yourself, but open your eyes to the things that are happening. Samurai are only obligated to defend the ones that hired them. It's a great honor and they flow with great conduct, but only within their realm. Once they cross over to the land of commoners here, they don't really care much and do what they please," he told me sternly, but solemnly.

"I see. I'll do more of my part as a fellow villager here! I work even harder so as to not inconvenience, then."

"I was just kidding! You work hard enough helping shops all around. You don't need to work. I'm actually telling you to relax."

"Ah - oh, I see. Then I'll make sure to take some rest every now and then."

I was a bit stunned at the conditions I wasn't aware of. I know I did everything I did to try and work, but I guess I put too much attention to that and looking down when sometimes looking up would've given me information like that. Still, more than surprised, I felt a bit of jealousy towards this ninja. He can do as he pleases? They are seen as honorable and follow so much conduct..., but he can do as he pleases once he leaves that circumference of restriction.

"Yes! You can know us more if you're just around us instead of focusing on work, you know."

"Right. Thank you! I'll see you around then."

Walking back, Y/N felt this unknown jealousy and desire still there. How to pinpoint it, she wouldn't be able to find out by staying here. This desire she did not yet know, made something else grow. A feeling of doubt that she would be really staying for long with the rest of the villagers. This feeling was ignored as she could not think of her having to leave, unless another fire took place in which she asked what else could that fire take? "Nothing" was the ultimate answer. So why did this feeling of doubt creep in when this new feeling of desire came through?

Freedom. The God of Fire wanted her to be free of the restrictions. These places... Why would this god make them all suffer for just a singular person?

"That is not the way in which elemental divinity works." He answers. "We are natural. The fire that took down their homes prior is just natural, whether it be man started or not. Man does not create or control us. We can be welcomed, and once a thing such as fire is welcomed, there is no other way to best celebrate than to dance."

So this was just divine communication. The fire was supposed to take these restrictions. This one, he could tell, is not happy. Because there are restrictions.

"So I kept taking them away."

"There will come a day that you will be shown that even in the way of conduct, there is pure freedom in life. And this day, just like fire, is growing fast to reach you."

"That guy's name's Kotaro Fuma, huh? And he's supposed to be this scary tough guy. He seemed alright to me, maybe just a bit rude," I muttered to myself.

As she said this, there was a twinge of jealousy of his lifestyle and a desire to see him once more. She winced at this feeling that came out of nowhere and poked her solar plexus like a needle. Weirdly, she felt more fear than confusion as to why this was happening. The unknown reason for this feeling to be this strong was more unsettling than not being able to find a reason for it.

'See someone like that?' she thought. 'What's wrong with me? That's absurd! He terrorizes people..., yet... why... Why do I want to see it all?'

This thought made her shiver. How could she think these things? How could she find any desire in the type of way he lives? This isn't her she thinks. She's just shaken up from the events and it's having a slow after effect that's all - she tried to justify.

With this feeling, the God of Fire is telling her, "Resist the urge to stay within the realm that is not your home. Get away from earth, wind, and water. They will not guide you to the freedom you need. Indeed, the bit of oil I gave you has been enough to awaken this feeling."

The oil he refers to is the first encounter with Kotaro Fuma. There is only need for just a bit, for his fire is strong already while she is still trying to find hers. He'll be the one to flick the lighter.

All of her thoughts for the rest of the day is how he conducts himself through the day. What does he do? What does he eat? How does he fight? What does he enjoy? What does he dislike?

How does he live?

After a long day of thinking of fire as if she were near the sun, she finds that it is already the end of the day. She needs to turn in.

As she tries to sleep, her last thought before her consciousness leaves to rest is 'If fire can't be contained, then what is it?'

A response was given, but it seemed she fell asleep before she could hear it, "Chaos."
