Light a Candle

Once Kotaro left the girl's place of business, he felt something he rarely feels in other people. Interest. Not many people care for his type of lifestyle, but for some reason, he thought he may have found someone he can push. Great potential to see another that agrees with him, but why? Nothing that she did gave reason for his interest.

"I know I teased the girl, but I wasn't actually planning on going back just for one person, but who knows? It may be fun," he smirks at the thought.

Fire is never lonely. It keeps itself company, but that doesn't mean they reject other company. Fire catches on quickly and spreads wildly without need for much. A single lighter can make calamity if you have oil or a single lighter can make elegance by lighting a candle. Kotaro doesn't desire to be kept closed up in glass. Gasoline and oil are the right conductors for him, and she has it.

Great potential, but how? Why?

"I'll go. I'll take her to see if she has anything to give."

No, these questions are useless. He does not care for reason. If he feels like it, he won't question or disrespect himself by not doing whatever it is that he feels like doing. That is the beauty of fire. It's chaos that you can continually gaze at.

Kotaro sets off in the middle of the night, sneaking inside her room.

He puts his hand over her mouth to muffle her surprise scream. She thrashes around, but calms down a bit after seeing his face from the moonlight coming through the window.

'It's him!' she thought.

Too surprised, she was not able to speak and just stared in bewilderment.

'He's dangerous, so I better just keep an eye on him for now. He's dangerous and I really don't think I can beat a ninja...' were her initial thoughts. There was something else that needed to be thought of though. She needed to question it. Maybe she can beat a ninja. That spark - they both need to give each other that spark.

"What do you want?"

"Hm? You. I want you to do something."

"Why should I?"

"I don't think it's in your best interest to doubt me if you want to continue living for long."

"What do you want me to do?"

"Infiltrate the Hojo Clan."

Such a demand made her frozen still and he shed a quiet chuckle.

"Wh - Why? Don't you serve them?"

"I do, but I don't care. I want to see that you can do this and make it out alive."

"I can't possibly do that."

"Either you try dying or I kill you right here," his voice was not threatening, rather smooth and alluring.

"But why? That still doesn't make any sense."

"Maybe I'll tell you if you get out alive," he chuckled again.

"Come with me right now. You're doing this tonight."

"Excuse me?! I don't know the first thing about anything!"

"That's what makes it fun," he keeps chuckling.

He doesn't need to say anything for her to understand that he's being completely serious. That aura that he emits is all that she needs to feel to know that she doesn't have a choice.

All her years of training came through her mind. It was never put to use or practice, but she did work hard, maybe not as hard, but she does have a fighting chance in comparison to others.

When your choices are 'die or be killed', there's not really anything you can do. However, there's one thing you can do to make these choices seem like you actually have a say.

Make your choices 'have fun or give up'. This change in perspective, sometimes it makes a miserable situation a way of living.

Her face went calm, so she said, "Alright, let's have fun."

The spark has touched the candle? No, the lighter was dropped onto a trail of gasoline.
