They ran near to the perimeter of the Hojo clan.
"What do you want me to do?"
"Do whatever you can. I don't really care what you end up doing. I just want to see if you can make it out alive."
"And if I do?"
"I've told you before, right? Don't be such a naughty girl and be patient, won't you?"
Y/N became flustered at his words. They do not sound cruel or harsh and that just made it all the more enticing. He chuckles at her reaction.
"I'll be nice and give you where to start. You can go through my post, but after you go in. I won't tell you anything. You'll have to figure it out."
"That's awfully nice of you. My first stealth mission, huh? Alright, maybe I can take something and bring it back."
Kotaro says nothing, just squints his eyes and gives less than a quiet smile.
"I'll be waiting right here. Try not to die."
"So sweet, thanks," she says half sarcastically, half flirty.
'Was that a risk? Was being too comfortable risky? Too late. It doesn't matter because he's more interested in whether I make it out alive or not...'
'Alright years of self-training! Don't let me down..!' she hypes herself up.She takes much longer than she'd hoped. She needed to be extra careful since this was a life or death situation. She didn't know the place, nor did she know exactly how much security there was around. Every step she waited until it was completely secure to take. When there was a creak, she would quickly retreat or try to find a place where they couldn't see or find her just by taking a glance. Eventually, she found herself hearing the Hojo leader himself. It seems he's having a meeting. She wants to stay and listen, but it's far too risky to wait that long, so she moves along to find something - anything to bring back.
There's a gut feeling. It's not something good. This could potentially take out the fire that was born just tonight. She feels like she needs to stay and listen to what the potential damage may be, yet her survival instincts are also telling her to survive and get going. Fortunately, she's able to fight her intuition to follow her life.
'I can do this again. I can come back here again. I don't think Kotaro would care. Even if he did, I'm sure he'd only kill me if I was actually a threat. More than that though. I'm not the threat... It's Hojo...'
That is what that gut feeling was telling her. She finally understood what it was trying to say.
Once she has that down, she pushes the thought away quickly, 'If I mend on this for long, I'll be distracted and not know the things around me, and I'll get caught. I just need to find something to take back to Kotaro.'
She pushes forth a bit more and finds an empty room, but there's things set up, maybe for another meeting or just someone's room. She's careful to go in. She takes light steps to not make noise, but also tries to go fast, in case anyone were to be coming anytime she was in there. She scans the room quickly and spots that there's a lot of food.
'Maybe these gluttons won't know if only one is missing. I'll take two. One for each of us!' she thinks.
Then the realization of what she thought hit her and didn't know what to do, but there was no time to dwell on things like that. She needs to get out right away, so as careful as she went in she went out.
'He may not like that I took a really long time,' she thought worriedly.
"You're still here," she goes up to him, surprised.
"You're still alive. Did you manage to bring anything back?"
"Just some food," she hands one rice ball to him.
"I don't want it."
"Oh," she feels rejected. "A - A - Anyway, now that I've come back alive, can you tell me now what this was for?"
"I wanted to know if I found a new pet. I like dogs, so I thought maybe you could be one."
"I'm surprised someone like you is able to like such restricting responsibility of having to take care of a dog."
"Are you saying you can't take care of yourself? Are you a literal dog? Even feral dogs can find their own food as you just did."
"Yeah, you're right. I can go back there and get more food for myself."
His eyes widened slightly and said, "You're willing to do that again?"
"I am. If I can do it once, I can do it again. Who knows? I just might like this hobby of stealing food. We'll be seeing each other more often too. Don't forget that you're the one who started this."
He laughs and walks away.
The man of fire does not deal with others for long. His flames too strong they burn alive others who go near him, but Y/N was different. She is not of earth, air, or water, so she is not weak to fire as she means to become fire as well. It's what the God of Fire intended. This man of fire does not deal with romantic passion. He deals with chaos. The girl does not feel romantic passion, but more than that it is passion of desire, not lust. She does not love him, for she does not understand him.
"I need to know who he is. No, I want to know who he is. He has something I want. He is something I want. If he doesn't do people, then I'll become fire instead."
