"I'm Jake by the way," he spoke, holding his hand out across the table.

"Seth," the boy spoke, shaking Jake's hand. "Seth Kings."

"So where did you move from," Jake asked once they were done shaking hands.

"New York," Seth replied.

"Yikes," Jake said. "That must've been quite a trip, huh."

"You could say that," Seth said with a snicker.

"So why the move to California?" Jake asked with a smile.

"My dad's job," Seth replied with a nod of his head.

"Where does your dad work?"

"He's a salesman," Seth replied.

"Oh, that's cool."

"How 'bout you?" Seth asked, changing the topic to Jake. "Where did you move from?"

"Nowhere," Jake snickered. "I've lived in California my whole life."

"Oh. I thought you were new too."

"New to you. I like making new friends and what could be better for you than becoming friends with the star QB on the football team."

Seth chuckled lightly and Jake smiled. "Lucky me," Seth spoke lightly.

"How 'bout you come down to the football field after school? I could give you a private tour of the school," Jake offered.

"I'm down."

"Cool," Jake said, standing up. "I'll see you there."

Jake walked away from him, looking over his shoulder to meet Seth's stare once again before he sat down with his friends.

"So," Chase spoke first. "How'd it go?"

"What's his name," Gigi asked.

"Does he have a girlfriend," Nikki added.

"Good," Jake said, looking at Chase.

"Seth Kings," he said, looking at Gigi next.

"And probably not," he finished, looking at Nikki.

Everyone looked at Seth except Faith who was still staring at the table.

"Hey," Jake whispered lightly. "Are you okay?"

"Can we talk after school today," Faith asked in a whisper.

"Yeah, babe. Of course."

She looked away from him before standing up and then left the cafeteria. Jake watched her leave and once she was out of his line of sight, he looked back at his friends to see Shane looking at him.

Everyone headed to their fourth-period class after lunch. Jake and Shane both walked into their class and went to the back of the classroom sitting beside each other.

"Do you know what's wrong with Faith," Jake asked, facing Shane.

"What do you mean," Shane asked, looking at Jake.

"Did you not see that she was upset?"

"Jake, that's your girlfriend. You should know why she's upset."

He sighed and Shane looked away from him. The bell rang and the teacher closed the door. Before he spoke the door cracked open and in walked a student. Jake looked up and saw that it was Seth.

He heard the teacher tell Seth to sit in front of Jake. His eyes followed Seth's movement all the way over to his seat. The two shared a quick smile then Seth sat down in front of Jake and the teacher began talking.
