When Jake got home, he pulled his car into the driveway. He turned it off before getting out to lock it then walked up the front porch, heading inside his house to see his mom sitting on the couch in the living room.
"Hey Jake," his mom spoke once he closed the door behind him. "How was practice?"
"It was good," Jake replied. He kicked off his shoes and then dropped his gear bag by the door. He walked over to the living room and sat on the couch next to his mom.
"How was work?" he asked, facing her.
"Ugh," his mom groaned, turning to face Jake which made him chuckle.
She placed her elbow on the top of the frame of the couch and rested her head on the palm of her hand. "Tiring. Stressful. Annoying," she stated. "All I have to say is that if you want to make a career out of something-stick to football."
She cracked up and Jake replied saying, "Will do," before laughing along with her.
"Pizzas in the oven if you're hungry, sport," Jake's dad spoke, peeking his head out from the office room.
"Okay," Jake called out.
"I'm going to start on my homework okay," Jake said to his mom once he rose to his feet.
"Okay," his mom said.
The two both shared a smile before Jake left the living room, making his way upstairs to his room. Jake laid down on his bed and then turned on his phone. Obviously, he wasn't going to do any homework so, he scrolled through all his pictures of him and Faith. There were also some of the whole group, but Jake didn't focus on those as much. All those memories way back to when he and Faith were fourteen years old. The Disneyland trips, the Vegas trip, the holiday parties, and her Quinceanera. And now they're juniors in high school.
"Man, where has time gone," he whispered to himself once he got to their most recent pictures.
Jake couldn't help but chuckle at Chase's glow-up over the years. From long luscious black hair, acne all over his face, big frame glasses, and nothing but bones all over his body to short, gelled, and perfectly styled hair, a clean and smooth face, intense black eyes, and no glasses, and just the right amount of muscle.
"I wonder what came over him," Jake said to himself.
He looked up at the time on his phone and decided to turn off his phone. He placed it on his nightstand and plugged it up before he laid down underneath his blankets.
The next morning Jake woke up to the sound of his alarm clock on his phone going off. He turned it off and rolled out of bed. He grabbed the clothes that he picked out the week before and threw them on before heading downstairs. He grabbed an apple from the fruit bowl and took a bite as he walked over to the front door. Once he got his backpack, he left the house and got in his car, heading off to school.
As usual, Jake's friends crowded around his locker but this time, they had nothing to say. The group exchanged glances and finally, Chase spoke, breaking the silence.
"How was practice," he asked, looking at Shane and then at Jake.
"Nothing new," Shane replied, wrapping his arm around Kylie once she stood up after closing her locker.
"What did you think about Seth," Gigi asked, looking at Nikki.
"Eh," Nikki shrugged. "He just has looks. Not that much of an interesting person."
"Come on," Kylie said, lightly punching Nikki's arm. "That can't be true."
"What do you mean," Jake asked, looking in Kylie's direction.
