The Drug (Part 1)

"I am fine Shikamaru! I can go home just fine." Naruto whined after a very long day.

Honestly, earlier when Naruto kept declaring he was going to be hokage someday, he had never imagined that being the hokage would mean so much work. Like he was buried under paperwork and had so little time to spare for his beautiful and loving wife and his kids Boruto and Himawari. Naruto would've loved some awesome type of mission but finally the world was at peace and in a way, Naruto was glad that they didn't have to worry about any other attacks from other villages because of their strong ties.

But the fact that everything would be peaceful was just a mere assumption, since a shinobi of the leaf itself had managed to drug the seventh hokage. She had always pretended to be very meek and kind, that made Naruto trust her with the village affairs. Little did he know, that she was actually a spy and had been mixing certain amounts of this new drug, that the village of the sound came up with, in his morning and evening coffees.

It was only because Shikamaru had caught her in the act of putting some strange powder into Naruto's drink one evening that she was caught and sent to the prison. And since no one had any clue, what drug has been going inside Naruto's system, Shikamaru expressed his concerns.

"You are not fine. There is some strange drug inside your body and we have no idea what it can do. The kunoichi that was being interrogated knew about her mission to get close to you and feed you this in small portions, we got that out, but it seems like she too had no idea what this drug actually was. So, unless it's confirmed that it possesses no risk to you, you need to stay with him."

"But Sasuke rarely gets home to Sakura. They rarely even see each other; they are married and Sarada needs a dad. So, when finally, he's back in the village, for a few days at least, I really want him to spend time with his family. You can't take that away from Sasuke and put me in his care."

"You don't understand Naruto. You're the strongest shinobi in the entire world right now. If that drug messes with your system after getting triggered from something, we don't even know what, Sasuke is the only one who can stop you. He is the best choice we have."

"But his family –!" Naruto was about to yell and something, when he was cut off by another voice, too familiar to him.

"You're my family too." It was Sasuke. He had just gotten inside the Hokage's room through the open window and was currently standing just behind Naruto. "Or do you don't consider me that. Well, I can understand why, after all I was/am a criminal."

Naruto immediately turned back to face Sasuke, who had appeared out of nowhere. "Sasuke, of course, you are my family! And what are you even saying? You're the war hero, just like me!"

"Heh!" he smirked.

"What are you smirking for, you teme!"

"The Hokage, huh? And yet, you got taken down by some drug."

"Y-You bastard!"

"Calm down, Naruto. He's just messing with you" Shikamaru face-palmed. "Sasuke, you stop as well. And what is your answer?"

"I'll do it. I'll stay with him till the effects of the drug wear off, or you guys figure out what this drug even is. But we'll need a place."

"That's all right, we've already arranged an apartment, near the outskirts of the village where you guys could stay."
