3rd Person POV
The party this year was hosted by the Ravenclaws, in their Common Room, which sparkled with star-and-moon-themed decorations. Blue and bronze silks peppered the walls, the airy space with arched windows hosting around a hundred 7th year students, buzzing with anticipation for the kick off of one of the year's best parties. Ominis and y/n glide across the starry blue carpet, arm-in-arm, directly to one of the many high-top tables that had been conjured for the party, circling a spacious dance floor.
"Bottoms up!" Samantha Dale yells out to the seniors, after the first trays of shots had been passed around the room – with magic, of course – by Everett Clopton.
Everyone cheered loudly, as the music kicked off with thumping bass. The silk banners were bewitched to change colors to the rhythm of the music, which was produced by none other than Amit Thakkar. Amit was set up on a small stage in the corner of the Common Room. Throughout his sixth year, he had studied the art of DJing, spending many nights out at London nightclubs, and testing his music out at small gatherings in the Ravenclaw Common Room during their sixth year parties. It seems he had now become the resident Hogwarts DJ.
While it was the 1800s in the wizarding world, the muggle world had entered the year 2023, and was futuristic in comparison. Half-blood students garnered admiration from their curious pure blood classmates at the different muggle inventions, fashion, technology, and most of all, music, that they introduced to the school.
The Slytherin, Gryffindor, and Hufflepuff Hogwarts seniors were thrilled, for they had heard whispers of Amit's mesmerizing music that had the power to enchant and enthral anyone who listened. Amit was mastering the art of combining magic with music. His turntables were adorned with intricate runes and enchanted gems, each amplifying the power of his beats.
Samantha, Natty, and Poppy joined y/n and Ominis at their table, only to pull them both toward the dance floor.
"Time to let loose, you two!" Natty yelled over the music.
The five of them joined the growing crowd on the dance floor, as they gave in to Amit's pulsating bass line reverberating throughout the room. The students felt the energy surge through their bodies. As the music played, Amit continued weaving his magic into each of the tracks. He summoned sparkling lights that danced around the room, forming beautiful patterns that matched the beats. The students couldn't help but be drawn into the hypnotic display.
Wands swayed in the air as the crowd moved to the rhythm, spellbound by Amit's skillful performance. He mixed classic wizarding tunes into modern muggle beats, blending them seamlessly, bridging the gap between the magical and non-magical worlds. The boundaries of house rivalries dissolved as they all came together, united by the love of music and dance. The atmosphere was electric.
Y/n's POV
The party was the best one I'd attended yet, I was truly having a magical evening. I felt slightly guilty, giving into the pleasure of this feeling, while Sebastian was out there somewhere, battling on his own. But Ominis was right, it had been a year, it was time to move on and enjoy the friends I still have here.
I was really feeling myself tonight, for the first time in a while, I had an excuse to dress up. The girls told me I looked stunning, which really made me feel incredible. I was wearing a short, silky black dress, which hung from my body effortlessly, and a pair of studded black heels, elevating my height enough so that I was up to Ominis's shoulders. I had curled my usually long straight hair to have lovely subtle waves, and to top it off, I'd felt bold enough tonight to add some bright red lipstick. I wanted to be seen.
Professor Black had announced at the Welcome Feast that Quidditch was back on this year, and it didn't take long for the former teammates to re-form at the party. Garreth Weasley led the pack of Gryffindor players, jumping up and down to the music - many with their school ties wrapped around their heads. They were certainly the most wasted at the party, although Garreth seemed to be holding it together alright. He caught me staring at him, his face lighting up as he ran toward me in the crowd.
"Y/n!" he exclaimed, picking me up and spinning me around in a dizzying hug. "Aw I've missed you, darlin'!"
As he set me down, he planted a kiss on my cheek. "Wow, where did you go over the summer? You're glowing!"
It was hard to hear him, and I really wanted to catch up with my friend, so I grabbed his hand and led him to a table in the corner of the Common Room, far enough away from the music.
"Would you like to sit down for a bit over a drink and catch up, Garreth? It has been a while! And my feet could use a break," I laughed.
"I would love nothing more!" he grinned, conjuring two very large (and potent-looking) drinks.
Garreth and I have always been pretty good friends, but we became a lot closer during our sixth year at Hogwarts. He was a good-natured and charming guy, with bright red wavy hair and a mischievous glint in his eyes, which he claims is a Weasley trait. He was always getting up to no good, and was the absolute best at pulling pranks. But underneath his playfulness, I believed he had a heart of gold.
As we drank, we talked about everything and nothing, catching up and filling each other in on our summer adventures. If I was being honest with myself, I was filled with nervous excitement sitting one-on-one with Garreth at the party. Although I was so familiar and comfortable with him, toward the end of our sixth year, our friendship had started to turn pretty flirty, which we clearly both enjoyed. I'd been looking forward to seeing him again, and was not let down when I laid eyes on him for the first time tonight. It looked like he'd been working out over the summer break - I could see his biceps bulging through his white dress shirt, and the muscles in his forearms tensed, as they reached across the table partway through our conversation, his hand in search of mine. When his hand eventually crept its way over top of my hand, as his smiling eyes stared into mine, hanging off every word I shared with him – my heart skipped a beat at his touch.
"Hey, do you mind if I invite Leander over to join us," he asked me, partway through our conversation.
My heart sank a little, I had a feeling I knew where this was going, and I was enjoying our one-on-one time. I didn't want to be set up with Leander! But, not wanting to let on that I was disappointed, I answered "Sure."
He motioned for his Gryffindor teammate Leander Prewett to join us, who must have been lurking and watching us for some time.
"Hi honey," he said, using his usual pet name he uses on all the girls, pecking me on the cheek, "Nice to see you again."
He took a seat beside Garreth and I, and conjured us both a cocktail. Surprise surprise, all of a sudden Garreth had to go 'check in on the lads'.
I'm not sure why the girls at Hogwarts took interest in Leander. He was a bully, although, I guess, he was very (superficially) nice to all the girls... well, most of us. I resigned myself to the fact that I'd have to stay and chat to Leander for at least a little bit, as I didn't want to come across rude. So I took a sip of the cocktail, and began sharing with him some tales of my adventures.
