The world in the shadow

This World inverted

We walk through the seelie glade. It was beautiful. ''Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore'' Clary says. ''Welcome to the seelie glade, Clary Fairchild and Rebecca Stuton. The remotest edges of it'' Meliorn says as we follow him. ''How did we get here?'' I ask. There are entrances all through the mundane world'' Jace says. ''You just have to know where to look'' Meliorn adds. ''Why did we have to come here to find my father?'' Clary asks. ''Because of your necklace. It's a portal shard'', ''tell us something we don't know'' Jace says and sees the way I look at him scoldingly. ''How does it work?'', ''When I touch the crystal and I think of someone, I can see where they are'' Clary explains. ''I'm curious, Shadowhunter, who knows so much about Portals, did you never wonder why this portal shard doesn't behave the way normal portals do?'', ''Normal portals can only take you to place you've been'' Jace answers ''I guess I never really thought about it''. ''I see Isabelle is the smart one in the family. Your Portal shard works the way it does because it's a piece of another dimension'', ''another dimension?'' I ask. ''You're saying there's a portal in some other universe that can take us to anyone if we just think of them?'', ''If you can find the only portal still standing in that dimension it will take you to your father'' Meliorn says answering Jace. 

''These trees are where the alternate dimensions intersect the seelie realm'', ''How is it possible that the clave doesn't know about your dimensional doorways?'' Jace asks. ''They are our most guarded secret. We are their protectors'' he answers as we come by an archway of leafs and trees. ''Only seelies know of their existence'', ''Then why are you telling us?'' I ask. ''I owe a life debt to you two and I don't like being indebted to anyone'', ''What would happen if-'', ''If the seelie queen finds out I've shared this with you? I could be executed'' he says. ''Well, we'll  be extra careful then'' Jace says. ''There's no we in this scenerio. Only Clary can go in'', ''You've given us no reason to trust you, seelie'' says Jace. ''He brought us here'' I say. Meliorn uses his magic and begins to create the portal. ''I knew Seelies were one with nature, but-'' Clary tells us. ''This will establish a connection to the other dimension'', ''What's it like? The other dimension. Is it like this one?'' Clary asks. ''It is, but it isn't'', ''Could you be more vague?'' Jace asks. ''It is an alternate timeline, in a sense. There, shadowhunters and demons no longer exist and downworlders have been conformed to the mundane way of life to avoid detection'' Meliorn says explaining how the world will look like. ''What happened to the shadowhunters?'' I ask curiously. ''Their services were no longer required, because they won the war against the demons, centuries ago. Once they sealed the rifts between worlds their culture faded away. Once you arrive in the alternate dimension, you will assume the body of the Clary in that world. You will think and feel just like her'', ''but I'll still know I'm me right? I'll know I have to find the portal'' Clary asks. ''There's a catch'' Jace says ''your alternate self could consume you if you let it'' Meliorn says ''Is there a way not to let it?'' Clary asks. ''Focus on the difference between that world and ours. Find something or someone to keep you grounded to this one'', ''Easy enough'', ''It will be more difficult than you think. If you don't hurry, you could cease to be this world's Clary'', ''and she would be stuck in that world forever'' I say looking at Clary and Meliorn nods. 

It was darker outside. ''I just need to be sure it's safe'' Clary says giving me the cup and I put it in my jackets pocket. ''Just in case I don't make it back'', ''You're coming back'' I say determined ''What do either of us know about interdimensional travel?'' she asks. ''Little bit'' Jace butts in. ''Not helping'' I say to him. ''It's time'' Meliorn says as he is done with the portal. ''Meliorn, I appreciate the risk you're taking but a life debt requires you ensure my safety. I'll agree to go alone but if I find this alternate Portal, I won't be able to face Valentine on my own'' Clary says. ''She'll need back up'' Jace says. ''If you find the portal, you may come back for them. Shadowhunters need seelie permisson to go through. Only demons can pass through unaided'' Meliorn says before opening the portal in seelie languege. ''Good luck'' I say to Clary as she walks into the portal.
