Chapter 26
The next day, as Prince Andrew had mentioned, the usually lively academy was surprisingly tranquil. Faith found herself lying on her bed, noticing Andrew's empty bed and assuming he hadn't returned.
After a quick shower, she changed into an elegant knee-length A-line dress with a high neckline and long sleeves. The dress, crafted from a light, breathable lavender fabric adorned with delicate floral patterns and subtle lace trimmings on the sleeves, exuded sophistication.
To complement her stunning hairstyle, Faith adorned it with a headband featuring intricately designed flowers, gracefully framing her afro.
Opting for comfortable, low-heeled leather shoes, Faith couldn't shake off her curiosity about the meaning of the Rhododendron. Hence, she decided to discuss it with Mr. Florian.
Professor Florian's eyes lit up with intrigue as he welcomed Faith into his office. "Of course, my dear. I'd be delighted to help," he replied, gesturing for her to take a seat.
Professor Florian nodded thoughtfully. "The Rhododendron is indeed a captivating flower, rich with symbolism. In the language of flowers, it represents caution and danger, serving as a warning to be vigilant of potential dangers ahead."
Faith furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "Caution and danger? What does that imply when given to someone?"
Leaning forward, Professor Florian explained, "When presented to someone, the gift of a Rhododendron flower can subtly express concern or caution. It's a flower that conveys a message of warning, urging the recipient to tread carefully and be watchful of potential challenges or dangers in their path."
Faith pondered his words, trying to comprehend how they related to Prince Andrew and Madame Lavigne. "I see...thank you, professor."
The wise professor offered a comforting smile. "I hope you find the answers you seek," he replied, and Faith left his office, feeling both puzzled and anxious about Mr. Florian's interpretation. She considered the possibility that the sender of the flower might be either the key to finding her Grandfather or the one responsible for his disappearance.
The remainder of the day was dedicated to immersing herself in her Grandfather's journal, hoping to find any possible clue to his mysterious vanishing.
Suddenly, a knock on the door interrupted her. She suspected it was the person Prince Andrew had sent to escort her to the palace.
Faith opened the door to see a young boy, Christian Quiñones, standing before her. Despite his young age, he exuded confidence and mischief, immediately catching her attention.
"Well, well, look who we have here," Christian greeted her with a friendly smirk. "You must be Faith, the girl Prince Andrew can't stop talking about. I'm Christian, his loyal and ever-so-charming bodyguard."
Faith chuckled at his playful remark, warming up to his amiable demeanor. "Nice to meet you, Christian. And I hope Andrew hasn't been gossiping too much about me," she replied, feigning modesty.
"Oh, you're quite the subject of conversation around the palace, I must admit," Christian teased, earning a playful eye-roll from Faith. "But hey, enough chit-chat. His Royal Highness awaits. Shall we proceed?"
Faith nodded with a smile, grabbing the box containing her gown and shoes. Christian offered her his arm, and together they strolled through the quiet academy corridors.
As they settled into the carriage stationed outside the school's gates, Christian couldn't resist inquiring, "So, you and the prince, huh? Quite the duo, I must say."
"Indeed, we've become good friends," Faith responded, maintaining a playful tone.
Christian raised an eyebrow, still smirking. "Good friends who seem to spend a lot of time together," he teased, unwittingly stepping into a territory Faith wasn't ready to reveal.
Faith felt a hint of annoyance at Christian's teasing. Wishing to keep their dance lessons and adventures in the East Wing discreet, she replied with a snarky tone, "Well, Christian, it's not like we're solving mysteries together or anything. Just regular friends, you know."
Christian chuckled, remaining oblivious to the truth behind her words. "Of course, regular friends."
Faith was relieved by Christian's obliviousness, and she maintained her snarky tone, saying, "Exactly, just two regular friends with nothing extraordinary going on."
Upon reaching the grand palace for the Royal Enchantment Gala, Christian couldn't resist making a snarky comment to Prince Andrew. "Your Highness, I must say, you've managed to find the most creative ways to avoid the company of eligible ladies tonight."
Prince Andrew chuckled in response. "Well, you know me, Christian. I prefer a bit of adventure and mystery over the usual social gatherings."
Christian gave a playful salute. "Adventure and mystery it is Your Highness. I'll leave you to it then. Have fun with your... regular friend," he added, slyly glancing at Faith.
Faith smiled, appreciating Christian's humor. "Thank you, Christian. I'm sure Prince Andrew and I will have a wonderful time."
With that, Christian bid them farewell and attended to his duties as the bodyguard. Prince Andrew turned to Faith, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
"Now, let's avoid the chattering gossips and slip through this secret passage," Prince Andrew said, leading her towards a hidden doorway concealed behind a rose bush.
They stepped through the passage, and Faith couldn't believe her eyes. The corridor was beautifully adorned with hidden alcoves and glowing lanterns, evoking an almost magical ambiance. She followed Prince Andrew in awe as he navigated through the labyrinth of secret pathways.
Finally, they arrived at a lavishly decorated fitting room for the gala. "This is where you'll prepare for the gala," Prince Andrew said with a smile. "Take your time. I have no doubt you'll be the belle of the ball."
As Faith stepped into the fitting room, the exquisite blue gown awaited her in the box she held. Her heart fluttered with excitement as she carefully took out the gown and held it up, marveling at its elegant design. It was unlike anything she had ever worn before, and she couldn't help but feel like a true princess in it.
With a mix of anticipation and gratitude, Faith began to change into the gown. As she meticulously adjusted the dress, she felt a surge of confidence wash over her. This gown made her feel regal and empowered.
Once she was ready, Faith stepped out of the fitting room, her heart racing as she awaited Prince Andrew's reaction. As he turned to see her, his eyes widened in admiration, and a smile graced his lips.
"You look stunning," Prince Andrew said, his voice filled with genuine awe.
Faith blushed, feeling a newfound sense of beauty and grace. "Thank you, and you look equally dashing, Prince Andrew."
Prince Andrew's royal blue suit complemented Faith's gown perfectly, accentuating the intensity of his eyes. The suit was impeccably tailored, enhancing his form.
"Just for tonight, Miss Holmes, you're my princess," he whispered, his voice filled with warmth and affection.
Faith replied with a playful smirk. "Just don't expect me to curtsy every time you walk by."
Prince Andrew chuckled, amused by Faith's wit. "Oh, I wouldn't want to impose too much, my lady," he said, matching her playful tone. "But I must admit, having such a charming princess by my side makes this gala all the more enchanting."
With a delicate tiara placed atop Faith's head, she truly felt like she belonged in the royal setting. Then, Prince Andrew held up the beautifully crafted mask matching her gown, handing it to her with a flourish. "With this mask, your identity shall remain a secret, known only to me. Shall we venture into the ballroom and enjoy the night of mystery and intrigue?"
