"Don't move," Jun's voice, deep and smooth, comes from behind Minghao, who's been checking his phone in the corner. "There's a butterfly on your shoulder."Minghao freezes at the words and slowly, so slowly, turns his head to see the tiny butterfly perched on his shoulder. It's wings are a vibrant, almost transparent orange, so thin he can see the glint of the sun shining through them.
A large veined hand brushes against Minghao's bare shoulder, and Jun's long finger hovers in front of the butterfly, waiting. A heartbeat later, the butterfly flutters from Minghao's shoulder and onto Jun's finger. Minghao spins around and finally glances at Jun.
Jun is tall, a little much taller than Minghao, with rich brown hair, the color so dark it's almost black. It's slightly wavy and slicked back with some kind of matte pomade that must have been applied much earlier in the day, because pieces are rebelling and falling across his pale forehead.
Their eyes meet, Jun's almost as dark as his hair and flecked with bits of brown and gold. One corner of Jun's mouth kicks up before the other in the kind of smile you only see in good movies, where the men are British and afraid of their feelings.
The butterfly's wings flap, carrying it away from them, and Jun's smile dims. "I didn't get to make a wish."
"oh."
Jun crosses his arms over his chest, and Minghao can't help but notice the way Jun's muscles ripple at the movement.
"Mhm, did you know that butterfly wishes are more powerful than shooting stars?"
"oh?" Minghao asks, his eyebrows lifting.
Jun nods seriously. "Oh yeah. It's quantifiable. Scientific."
"That's too bad," Minghao says, his tone lowering.
Jun's eye twitched at the lack of enthusiasm from the younger, although his smile doesn't melt away in the harsh sunlight.
"I—"
"Would it kill you to smile a little?" Someone ahead called out to the two, It was Seungcheol, and behind him was Soonyoung and Seokmin.
Soonyoung seemingly happier then the other, skipped about as his eyes met with his best friend.
"Jun!!" Soonyoung yelled across the area, as he made his way towards the other male. When he noticed Minghao he cocked a brow but chose to ignore the other male's presence.
Jun's eyes linger on Minghao, a hint of mystery still dancing in their depths. "I guess I'll have to make a wish next time," he whispers, glancing at the fading silhouette of the butterfly. His gaze returns to Soonyoung, and he waves his hand.
"You're hereee!!" he yells, a wide grin on his face. The rest of the group follows suit, with Seungcheol and Seokmin catching up.
Jun's eyes shift from Minghao to Soonyoung, a warmth softening the dark hue in them. He tries to match the same energy back at Soonyoung with a small smile, and the corners of his mouth slightly rise.
Minghao watches the exchange, a subtle frown playing on his lips. Seungcheol, Soonyoung, and Seokmin join the trio, walking slowly. The sun dips lower in the sky, casting a warm glow over the scene.
"So, is it just you two?" Seungcheol asks, looking over the two boys.
Jun shakes his head, running a hand through his dark hair. "I don't really know, but I saw Seungkwan and Hoon getting ready together. "
Soonyoung's eyes widen in mock surprise. "Really? Together?!"
The group bursts into laughter, the carefree atmosphere enveloping them. Minghao finds himself caught up in the moment, the earlier tension replaced by a sense of ease.
