AS I WALKED backstage with the Bellas, internally grateful that we decided to ditch the skirts, I was so nervous.
I was terrified for our new set. I had faith it would be good, but I was worried about my solo.
My solo.
"One, two, three, swag!" I heard the chant from behind the curtain as we were handed microphones.
"This next group, they need no introduction, but I'll do it anyway!" The man onstage spoke and I knew which group was in front of us.
I took a few steps forward and saw the back of Jesse's head.
"Hey." I called softly to get his attention and he turned around.
"Hey." He greeted back. He was holding a mic in his hand and wore a red suit. He looked good.
"Good luck." I offered him a smile.
"Thanks. You too." He replied and I handed him a small note of paper. It was the same note of paper he had given me the night of the semi-finals.
He didn't open it, but he seemed to recognize it as he slipped it into the inside pocket of his suit jacket.
"...the Barden University Treblemakers!"
As the others in his group ran onstage, Jesse stayed behind. The guys took formation onstage and Jesse stood in the wings.
I stepped back with the other Bellas and Beca put a hand on my shoulder.
After the guys had started the intro to the song, Jesse headed onstage. I watched with a smile as he brought up a microphone stand and sat his on it before singing.
"I've been livin' for the weekend, But no, not anymore" His voice was still as amazing as always and he used his hands to gesture around as he sang. "'Cause here comes that familiar feelin' that Friday's famous for"
He used one hand to act as if he was searching through the audience.
"Yeah, I'm looking for some action And it's out there somewhere"
He then pulled his microphone off the stand and took a few steps forward.
"You can feel the electricity All in the evening air" People cheered as he sang and I had to bite back a smile as I watched. "And it may just be more of the same But sometimes you wanna go Where everyone knows your name"
As he ran a hand around his head, I raised my eyebrows because he looked so good.
"So I guess I'll have to wait and see" The other Bellas appeared at my side to watch. "But I'm just gonna let something brand new happen to me"
