Your first day as part of Captain Jack Sparrow's crew had turned out a lot harder than you had thought he would. Gibbs had made clear that there wouldn't be any exceptions for you, only because you were a woman.
You signed up to sail and now you're going to sail, he had said to you after you had climbed on board of the Interceptor.
In no time you had learned that being a sailor included cooking, handling and reefing sails, keeping watch, cleaning decks, to just name a few. Many of these jobs were hard work. And even though they had pushed you to your physical limits all day, you still had liked doing them.
While doing your tasks, you had also enjoyed the view and atmosphere on board: the bright and warm, tropical sun, the soothing sounds of the sea, the salty breeze, the handsome captain on the quarterdeck... this had made everything and everyone you had encountered a lot easier to handle.
The crew was on a good way to accept you, many sailors already treated you like you were one of them. Only Gibbs was still a little concerned about you being "frightful bad luck".
The young man with the brown hair had been kind to you from the beginning and had introduced himself as William Turner earlier. Just like you, he wasn't a pirate. He was only a blacksmith. He despised piracy and had only joined Jack Sparrow to save his friend, Elizabeth Swann. A name, you thought, you had heard before, but had brushed off again.
You two got along pretty well. Will strongly reminded you of Chris. He wasn't as old or tall as him but had similar beliefs and values. He would die for his friend. And so would Chris for you.
Both are honorable men, you thought.
Will and you chatted the whole afternoon while scrubbing the decks together and were talking about his life as a blacksmith in Port Royal when suddenly Jack ran across the deck, knocking over two buckets of water and almost tripping over Mr. Cotton. He looked a little silly, his arms moving in all directions while running towards Mr. Gibbs.
"Storm. Coming. Huge", he panted and pointed towards a pitch-black storm that had appeared on the horizon.
And he was right, huge it was.
In a matter of minutes, the former blue sky gradually became darker. The unruly surf became more violent and carelessly tossed the Interceptor around. Heavy rain increasingly pounded down on you and a tremendous crash of thunder rocked the ship. Waves swept over the deck and soon the thunderstorm was hitting the crew of the Interceptor with full force.
An hour later, you were standing on deck of the Interceptor and held onto a rope with dear life. Rain still pounded down on you like daggers falling from the sky and the wind howled. There was a flash of lightning and the crack of thunder. The canvas of every sail was stretched taut due to the crew members pulling lines and trimming sails while the waves tossed the ship back and forth.
Will was on the other side of the ship. As you watched him, you saw that he struggled with rigging a sail and definitely was in need of help.
So, you let go of the rope you clung to and tried to make your way towards him through the rain.
You had to squint your eyes to see something and held one hand in front of your face to block the heavy rain. Due to the bad sight, you tripped twice and almost fell. You had nearly reached the other side of the ship when suddenly a very big wave swapping over the railing caught you off guard. You were pulled from your feet, and let out a scream when the wave threw you past Will and over the railing.
