"Thank you for allowing me to help. Is their anything else I can do for you before you go?" Faye asked as she shook the old man's hand. "Nope! I think that's about it, Beautiful," the man said. Faye nodded and allowed him to walk out of her office.
She sighed and sat back in her office chair. She looked down at the time to see that it was 1:30 pm. She hadn't had anything to eat but some egg white bites from Starbucks and an energy drink.
She had been so busy trying to organize and set up her new penthouse. She was running off of 2 and a half hours of sleep, working a 12.5 hour day. She still wouldn't trade her job though.
Her phone rang, she prepared for it to be another client coming up. She answered. "Faye Chandler speaking," she said. "Miss. Chandler, someone is downstairs with food for you. Should I send them up?" the secretary asked.
"What's their name?" she asked. She hoped it wasn't Devon's crazy ass. There was a pause on the phone for a second. "Fatima Chandler," the secretary said on the other end of the phone. "Okay, send her up," Faye said and hung up the phone.
What was her mother doing at her job? Did something bad happen?
About 10 or so minutes later, there were knocks on the door to Faye's office. She stood up from her chair to go and open the door for her mother.
When she opened it, she saw Fatima with sunflowers and bags of take out. Her heart just melted. "Mommy! Oh my goodness!" she said. Her mom smiled and walked further into the office.
She went and sat the items down on Faye's meeting table and then turned back around to hug her daughter.
"Mommy, thank you so much! You did not have to do all this!" Faye said excitedly."You're welcome, Baby. You deserve it. I just wanted to do something nice for you because I know you work so hard and you're just the best daughter ever," Fatima said.
On days that Faye knew she was free, she would take her mom or dad lunch, sometimes both. She knew that it made them happy, and they deserved it for being so good to her as parents.
"Thank you so, so much. This means everything to me," Faye said as she picked up the flowers and looked at them. "It's just something small. Your dad wanted to come, but he got caught up in a job he was doing, so I just came alone. But he sent his love," her mom said.
"I'll have to call him later. I love you, Mommy," Faye said. "I love you too, Munchkin. Have you eaten anything?" Fatima asked. "No, Ma'am. I was just about to order something, but you beat me to it," Faye smiled and put the flowers back on the table as her mom unpacked the chinese food.
"Great. Let's pray," she said. Faye nodded and grabbed her mom's hand. "Lord, we come to you now and ask that you bless this food and the hands that prepared it. Lord, I also pray that you continue to shower us with many, many blessings, and remove the pain that others have caused. In Jesus' name, we pray," Fatima paused.
"Amen," they both said in unison. Faye walked to her desk to get some hand sanitizer and squirted it on her hand and her mother's hand before they both sat down.
"Soo, I know we've talked over the phone, but how are you feeling?" Fatima asked. "I feel good, honestly. Free and at peace," Faye said and started eating. Her mom halfway believed her, but she didn't want to darken the mood, so she moved on.
