"Ranpo," I complained, "The guy from the café doesn't like me!"
"Oh, does he not? That's a shame."
"Is there something on your mind?" I questioned. I could tell that Ranpo hadn't been acting normally since my first case. Was he jealous that I was as good at solving crimes as he was? Was he upset because I got slightly injured?
"Yeah..."
"What are you thinking about?"

Ranpo stood up and grabbed me by my shoulders. "You could have been a bit more careful! What if you weren't so lucky and you died on that mission?!" He chided.
"I'm... sorry?"

I looked behind me to the reception desk. The guy sat at it was staring right at me. I smiled at him and he blushed before quickly looking away.

"I'll be right back," I quickly told Ranpo before walking over to the desk, "Hey receptionist!"
"Oh, uhh, hey. Anything you need?"
"Just a chat."
"Anything in specific?" He questioned.
"I noticed you were looking over at me there," I accused. The way he blushed at me when I smiled at him told me that he might've had some feelings for me.
"Oh, umm, yeah..."
"You wanna go out somewhere at some point? I'm free whenever you are," I giggled. I hadn't even noticed him before but he seemed sweet enough. Maybe I would give him a date then make an evaluation later.
"Oh, I'm not going to be doing anything for a while, so are you free now?"
"Sure! I'll meet you at the café over the road!"

I grabbed my coat from the chair where I was sat with Ranpo before. I felt bad about leaving him on his own after saying I would be gone for a few minutes and now it would probably be at least the best part of an hour.
"Ranpo I'm sorry but I'm going to be gone for a while. Can you save your lecture until I get back?"
"Lecture? What lecture? Is there a reason I should be angry?"
"Uhhh, no. Anyway see ya later!"
"Be careful."

It was clear to me then that Ranpo had already forgotten about being angry in the two minutes I was gone. Well it was Ranpo I suppose.

In around four minutes I met the receptionist at the café. I waved him inside as we sat down at a window table.
"My name's Tomioka by the way," He smiled warmly.
"Yamai."

We both talked happily for ages, drinking coffee and eating cake. He seemed nice when I first talked to him, but now I was properly getting to know him, he seemed even nicer.

"... and then he said 'I expected nothing less from someone who was trained from the best!'" I laughed and so did Tomioka.
"So you could tell all that from just looking at a body?"
"Well Ranpo did teach me how to. It's honestly not that hard anyway."
"That's amazing! You're amazing!"
"Oh stop it, you're making me blush," I giggled turning away with my face turning pink.

Tomioka picked up the tray of empty cups and stood up.
"I'll be taking these back to the counter."
I nodded at him as he walked away. While I was sat alone, I smiled to myself. I was happy to finally have someone who felt the same way as I did. Even if he didn't like me romantically, I was just glad to have another friend.

He came back to the table and we grabbed our coats, then walked out to go back to the Agency.
I had my arm entwined with his and he grabbed my hand. I suddenly felt his grip loosen and he fell to the ground. I saw a flash of black pulling back. It had stabbed right through his chest.

Turning around, I saw the culprit. It was a man. He had black hair with grey tips, a dark coat and pale skin. I recognised this man. It was Ryunosuke Akutagawa from the Port Mafia. He placed his hand over his mouth as he coughed before speaking.
"Hello again, traitor."
"Man, yall always come at the most inconvenient times and then make out like I'm the villain here," I groaned. I had left the mafia because Ranpo had told me too. It's not like I had killed everybody to escape.

The same black spears that stabbed Tomioka came out from the back of his coat. It was his ability, Rashomon. It allowed his coat to transform into a weapon that could even cut through space.
"You gonna kill me?" I asked, reaching for the gun in my back pocket. He noticed and quickly launched Rashomon at it, shooting it from my pocket. "Oh."
"Is that it?"
"Well actually yeah, kinda. I don't really feel comfortable using my ability in a public space and that was the only weapon I had. I guess I'll just lie here and wait for you to kill me," I cried.
"You're weak," He scoffed.
"It's not my fault you've gotten stronger since we last met. I only thought it would take a gun to beat you but I suppose not."
"You... really think I've gotten stronger?"

He opened his eyes wide to look on the ground where I had been, but was no longer. I had managed to slip behind him while he was distracted. "Sike."

I was hoping for a cool moment but my plan was immediately thwarted by Rashomon which pierced the shoulder of my jacket, pinning me to the wall.
"Oh again!" I exclaimed, "You really are full of tricks today, aren't yo-"

My sentence was interrupted by him stabbing me through the gut with his ability. I could feel the metal taste in my mouth as it ran down from my nose.
"That... that was uncalled for," I spluttered, "But I'm not as weak as you might have thought."

I quickly placed my hands on the Rashomon spears piercing my jacket and lightly activated my ability to shoot them, along with Akutagawa backwards, slicing my hands on the sharpened cloth in the process.

I quickly ran to Tomioka's side. He was lying unconscious on the ground where he had been stabbed.
"Okay, uh um, what to do? How do I fix this?"
I could feel sweat from stress forming on my forehead. I wasn't sure what to do, especially with Akutagawa quickly stabilising himself. I knew I could use my ability to heal but I was scared I would mess up and kill him accidentally. Right now, my life really sucked.

"Will you hurry up fawning over him and fight?" Akutagawa mocked.
"Shut up for a sec will ya? You should be quiet more."

I heard Akutagawa let out a long, angry sigh before picking me up by the back of my jacket and throwing me away.
I huffed, pulling myself up and dusting myself off.
"That was really not nice," I scowled.
"Well the mafia aren't supposed to be nice," He   snapped back before re-activating his ability, "So are you ready now or not?"
"Hehehe. The real question is, are you ready?"

I began to run at him but he didn't move. It was easy to say Akutagawa let his ability do the work. I jumped up to attack but was stopped by Rashomon. It yet again stabbed me through the chest. As he pulled it back, I slowly felt myself lose consciousness.

Later, I shot up in a bed. Not my bed though. It was more like a hospital bed. I quickly felt my face to make sure I wasn't dreaming.
"I'm... alive? I'm alive!" I cheered.
As I celebrated, Yosano walked in.
"Ah, so you're finally awake."
"Miss Yosano!" I smiled, "How are my injuries all gone?"
"How have you only just found out? It's my ability. I can heal wounds as long as they are on the brink of death."
"Woah. Thats cool," I marvelled. Then I remembered Tomioka, "How's Tomioka?"
"The receptionist? He's fine."

I let out a long sigh of relief. I was glad that he didn't die on our first date. That wouldn't have been good. I was also happy to be alive.

The next few days I had nothings to do. I felt slightly relieved that I could just relax for a few days but when I walked into the office the next day, Ranpo wasn't there and everyone looked stressed while gathered around a table.
