"You know she's going to have to stay in the same room as you right?" Kunikida questioned. In reply I nodded about six times, really quickly.
"Well as long as you know that... I guess you're all set then."
"Woohoo!"Later, I walked back into the apartment that the Agency had supplied with a few bags of shopping. Having Uzi around was quite helpful. When I came back with shopping, she would come to the door, take the bags off me and put the stuff I got away.
"Uhm, Yamai do you mind if I tell you something..?"
"I'm just going to make dinner so you can tell me while we're eating. Okay?"Uzi gave me a quiet and nervous nod before she began to grab out plates and cups. Then she made some tea.
When the food was ready, the two of us sat down opposite each other and began to eat. Uzi looked up at me. Then I remembered I told her I would listen to what she wanted to say st dinner.
"Oh! What was it that you wanted to tell me Uzi?"
"Uhm... I wanted to tell you about my past. I don't tell many people how I got into the Port Mafia but I feel like you deserve to know after everything you've done for me."
"I don't think I've done that much for you but okay. Go ahead."
"When I was younger..."5 years ago
Uzi Kaze was a 5 year old girl with no siblings. She had a Mother and Father. That was it. No siblings, no cousins, no friends. All she could do was play on her own. It was a pretty boring life for Uzi.
The reason she had no friends was because she didn't go to school. She wasn't like everyone else. She was born with a special ability, and her father resented her for it. Neither him or her mother had special abilities so this was a very rare case. Uzi's mother was the only person in the world who actually loved her. Her father would go out drinking late at night and would try to avoid Uzi as much as possible.
Her mom would take her on trips out to get things like sweet treats every weekend. Those were the days of her childhood that Uzi cherished. The days spent alone were ones she longed to forget but they just wouldn't disappear.
"Come on Uzi! Are you nearly ready?" Her mother called up to her.
"Nearly mama!"
Uzi ran down the stairs in a small yellow raincoat and adorable waterproof boots. Back then, Uzi had long hair and today she had it tied into to fluffy buns on both sides of her head.
"Aren't you just the cutest!"
Uzi laughed running into her mother's arms.
"Do you want to know where we're going?"
"Yes please!"
"Well today we are going to that new crepe van that opened up recently!"Uzi and her mother returned home after a nice day out of eating delicious crepes. But this happiness was not to last.
Uzi's father still hadn't returned home. If he went out with his friends, they would be lucky if he came back before 11pm. So they still had a while before he got home. So they decided to watch some TV together.
Soon after they sat down, they both got bored.
"Mama? Can we go out again?"
"Sure! Why not."Uzi and her mother got their shoes back on and went out again. There was no need to stay at home with her father out. They didn't go to any food places. Instead they walked across the high street trying to see if there was any shops they wanted to go in. Someone walked up close behind them.
"Hey!" They called out. "Are you Kazumi Kaze?"
"Mama who is that?" Uzi cried. She was scared. The guy was wearing complete black and he was reaching into his pocket.
"I don't know sweetie. Go wait around the corner," She began to stroke her daughter's face. She knew what was probably about to happen but she didn't want to panic Uzi, so she had to hide her tears. "Mama will catch up with you in a minute."Uzi ran around the corner just like her mother had said to. She clapped her hands over her mouth. From a young age Uzi had been good at reading expressions. The expression on her mother's face wasn't fear. It was sadness and regret. Uzi felt like she was about to start crying at any moment.
"I won't let you touch my daughter," Kazumi scowled.
"Oh it's not her I'm after."
The man's voice was shaky. He looked like a total mess. Greasy skin, unshaven beard and a messy top.
Kazumi laughed. "Well I'm not going to let her see what's about to happen. It would hurt that little innocent mind of hers."Kazumi pulled out a knife from underneath her jacket as the guy infront of her pulled out a gun from his back pocket. She took a few steps toward him as he placed the gun to her forehead. Just as he began to pull his finger down on the trigger, she quickly lunged down and sliced a cut into his leg. Kazumi ran to be behind the man who quickly spun around. He fired the gun to her chest.
"Goodbye Kazumi Kaze..." His voice wavered as he began to laugh, shooting her in the back of her chest until his gun ran out of bullets.
Uzi still sat around the corner. She kept taking peeks around to see what was going on. When she heard gunshots her hands clapped over her mouth. She was trying not to be sick she was so scared. Even when she wasn't trying to look around the corner, she could see deep red blood splattered across the floor. When she eventually looked from her hiding spot, there, her mother lay with bullet wounds on her back, in pools of blood. The guy stood over her body with a crooked grin plastered on his face. Uzi launched herself back into her hiding spot. If the man came around the corner, she was done for. She was trying to come up with a plan when it struck her.
No! I can't do that. I've never activated my ability on purpose before let alone used it like that! But I can't just let this man go. He killed my mamma and he will pay, she thought to herself. She stood up and walked slowly from her hiding spot. She stood staring at the man who just laughed at her. She could see her mother lying dead on the pavement out of the corner of her eye. Then she took a deep breath before beginning.Once she was done with him, there was barely anything left. Uzi's clothes were drenched in his blood. Blood stained walls stood behind where the man had been killed. He was just a ripped up, bloody corpse. She let out a smug laugh before walking back home. Alone.
After that incident, her father didn't go out drinking as much, but she was blamed for her mother's death.
"It's you and your retched 'special ability's' fault!" He scolded, slapping her around her face. This continued for a few months after her mother died. One day, there was a knock at the door. Her father told Uzi it sit and wait until he was done. Instead of someone just wanting to talk at the door, Uzi saw someone kick her father into the wall. He walked inside following her father. He had longish orange hair that flowed over his left shoulder. He was quite a short person. He placed his hand over her father's head and when Uzi saw a flash of red, her father lay without a head on the now red carpet. The man stood infront of his body laughed.
"What a dick," He smiled turning to Uzi, "He's your father isn't he? So why don't you look sad at all? In fact you look relieved."
He walked over to her and leaned over.
"You hated him didn't you? Well whatever, it's a pleasure to meet you, Uzi..."Present
"...after that he took me to the Port Mafia. He said he had some connections to my mother but refused to say how he knew her. Also why are you crying?"
I sat there with my hand over my mouth and tears streaming down my cheeks.
"I'm so sorry..."
"Why? You didn't do anything?"
"You had to live through all of that. I promise you that I will protect you! And that I will find out how Chuuya knew your mother!"
"I never said that was his name."
"It was quite obvious from your description."
