Joshua Dun was awoken early by his maid, who had informed him that he was to be fitted for his wedding to Queen Jenna Black.
Josh, a young man of 16, was not amused by the idea of marrying a woman he never met, and was secretly in love with his long time tutor and best friend, Debby Ryan.
However, before he could process his thoughts further, Josh found himself sitting on the stool, surrounded by maids and servants, while being fitted for his suit.
As they measured and designed him, the royal scheduler came into his room, with a list in his hand, while holding a watch.
(Start song)
"Hoo! We're late, late, late!"
"Late for what, sir?" Josh asked.
"We have twenty, maximum, twenty-two minutes, for your royal fitting, and then, it's move, move, move, to your speech at the historical society!"
The man went over the list, while Josh rolled his eyes.
"After that, we have to rush, and I mean rush, to the horticultural society tea! Oh, and then there's your math lessons, your geography lessons, your science lessons..."
Josh leaped off the stool, still dressed in his wedding suit, and began to walk around his room; singing about his dreams of not being betrothed, and being completely free of his princely lifestyle.
(Josh) All my life, I've always wanted To have one day just for me Nothing to do and for once nowhere I need to be
With no lessons, lords, or lunches Or to-do list in the way No one to say when to eat or read or leave or stay That would be the day
In the village, in the lowest part of town, lived the young and beautiful Tyler Joseph, a 16 year old boy working as a seamstress under the ruthless Madame Colleen.
He also had his dreams of being free, and not having to pay off any debts.
As he began his daily work, with his cat, Jason, Tyler began to sing.
(Tyler) All my life, I've always wanted To have one day for myself Not waking up with a pile of work on every shelf
With no hems in need of pressing And no sleeves in disarray No wedding gown with a thousand stitches to crochet And no debt to pay
As he sang, an angry voice alerted all the other seamstresses.
"Madame Colleen!" Bernadette, a young seamstress cried.
The vain woman approached the sweet brunette.
"What do you think I'm running here?!" She shouted. "A cabaret?!"
"I would've said a debtor's prison." Tyler replied; under his breath.
Madame Colleen got in the poor boy's face; her finger close to his mouth.
"Keep laughing, you'll be working for me for another 37 years."
"But, I've already paid off more than half!"
"But, there's an interest, isn't there?" Colleen said. "Your parent should have thought of that before they borrowed so much."
"They did it to feed me!" Tyler cried.
The vain woman snared at the helpless boy.
"Their mistake."
Madame Colleen went back into her room; slamming the door behind her.
Tyler sighed, once again singing of his desires.
As did the prince.
(Tyler) What would it be like to be
(Josh) What would it be like to be free!
(Tyler) Free!
(Josh) Free to try crazy things
(Tyler) Free from endless IOUs
(Josh) Free to fly
(Tyler) Free to sing
(Josh) And marry whom I choose
The prince gazed out the window of his room; eyeing her lovely tutor, Debby Ryan, studying in the garden.
However, the moment was interrupted by his mother, Queen Laura Dun. In some way, she knew that her son was in love with Debby, but she desperately wanted what was best for him.
"I'm so sorry, my darling." She said. "But, as you know, it is vital that you marry Queen Jenna. It is the only way to take care of our people."
Josh nodded; disappointed.
"I know. It's my duty."
Suddenly, his maid came in, carrying a gift.
Queen Laura was delighted.
"Look! Another engagement gift!"
As the Queen and the maid lamented the presents, Josh once again dove into his struggles.
(Josh) You would think that I'm so lucky That I have so many things I'm realizing that every present comes with strings
(Tyler) Though I know I have so little My determination's strong People will gather around the world to hear my song
"Can I come along?" Bernadette asked.
"Of course!" Tyler replied; dancing around the room.
Josh began to fear that because of his betrothal to Queen Jenna, he may never get the freedom he desires.
(Josh) Now I feel I'll never be
(Tyler) Soon I will forever be
(Josh and Tyler) Free!
The two boys walked towards their balconies; gazing off into the distance.
(Josh and Tyler) I close my eyes and feel myself fly a thousand miles away I could take flight, but would it be right? My conscience tells me, "stay"!
Realizing their thoughts, the two boys promised themselves they would remain confident in their dreams, and do what their hearts feel is right.
(Josh) I'll remain forever royal
(Tyler) I'll repay my parents' debt
(Josh and Tyler) Duty means doing the things your heart may well regret
(Josh) But I'll never stop believing
(Tyler) She can never stop my schemes
(Josh and Tyler) There's more to living than gloves and gowns and threads and seams
In my dreams I'll be free!
Josh and Tyler, through their hopes and desires, remind themselves that they will someday be truly free.
