You try so hard, and it's all for nothing. When you take a left turn, you're met with a tall metal wall, it almost looks inviting. A nice place to slump your body and take a seat, but you know if you take a break you'll stop. So you keep going.
You retrace your steps and mend your mistake. Take a right and keep on marching. Suddenly the clouds look very dreary above the city and few drops drizzle on a sunny day. You forgot an umbrella and no hoodie to protect you from this raging storm. You can't stay sad or disappointed when the rain cools off your skin and relaxes you after such a long heated day. No, you can't stop and enjoy the crying clouds above you. You sympathize with them and shed your own tear, but you keep going.
Finally, shelter! You enter the worn building and see a stray or two but nothing of importance. Merely souls as lost as you who haven't progressed just yet. They whisper thoughts of gossip about the creaking floorboards and the winding halls, but you dismiss the words of cruelty. The old home provides warmth and roofing from such a bad storm, even if it's seconds away from collapsing. You could lay down and wait for the storm to pass, but your once again reminded to keep your chin up and move forward after the other lost souls whither away from their lack of prevalence. You huff and keep on going.
A room, after failed attempts at traveling the passages of hallways, filled with paintings converted in dust. A married couple, a manager at a business, a kind old man who seems content just hanging on the wall. They all watch as you pass by. You see their starting eyes and judging smiles. Kind words fall on deaf ears as tears mop your face of the sadness. The one comfortable looking bed now looks so sharp and painful. It screams at you to lay down and allow the scolding words and hateful speeches to stop into your mind until there's nothing left at all. Yelling positivity masks smoldering roofs and chiming doors. All these thoughts on purpose with an audience now, pity thrown your way and facades keep your child at bay. You rest your eyes and sit down one more time. You debate if you should keep going.
What exactly is there to keep going for anyway?
