You told him over and over that he should stay home. Today, out of all days, he decided he wanted to go into town with you. After he persisted the entire time you got dresses (and he was very persuasive), you decided to just let him tag along.
You drove through town slowly, allowing him to admire the scenery and pretty lights. There was nothing special happening. You were only driving, but the radio was turned down low, and you kept your free hand in Jason's. Something about this moment just felt so peacful and serene. You wanted to grasp it and keep it folded in your box of memories for as long as you could.
As you parked the car, Jason exited the vehicle and walked to the driver's side, opening the door and letting you out. He kept his hand on the corner of the door just in case your head came too close to the sharp edge.
Jason shut the door softly and put his hand on the small of your back as you both walked along the sidewalk to the grocery store. You kept to his side as you walked, leaning into his warmth. He nodded along with your words as you rambled. Anything and everything tumbled from your lips as you slowly ventured to the store. From groceries to the football game on TV the other night. Even if he didn't know what you were talking about, he nodded along quietly and grunted softly every now again.
You approached the grocery store and cringed when you saw the billboard above the store. You couldn't help but snicker and cover your mouth with your fist. "Jason, honey, do you remember the ad I told you about on TV?" You asked softly. Jason froze and nervously shook his head. You giggled and pat his head. "Good." You snickered fondly and walked unto the store.
Jason went to follow you but stopped and looked up at the billboard. His eyebrows furrowed, and he tilted his head slightly as he looked up. What is a hockey league? Why was his face representing the competition? Was he famous? How did they know what he looked like? All of these questions and no possible way of receiving the answers. "Jason, honey, come on!" You called from the entrance of the grocery store. Jason looked down to you and then glanced back up at the sign in confusion.
He sighed and shook his head before walking to join your side. You laughed and wrapped your arm around his. "Come on, big guy, I told you today was not a good day to be out." You said with a smirk. He followed you into the store and squinted at the bright light, his hockey mask helping none with the blinding light. "Hey man, I love your costume! I'm a fan, too!" The man at the register called out. Jason's head turned to face the stranger, and he sighed in irritation when he heard your amused laughter from beside him. "He's a big fan of hockey. He's just shy about it." You said with a smile, hiding amused giggles behind your hand. Jason huffed and looked down at you with unamused eyes through his mask eye holes. You were just so funny, weren't you?
