Arcane Power
Arcane: The source of all magic in Skylands and the force holding the lands together. It exists in a realm parallel to Skylands, able to be tapped into by arcane-sensitive beings. Every being has "pockets" of the arcane realm that they are able to tap into. These are known as their arcane reserve. Depending on how sensitive to arcane you are, you will have greater reserves you can tap into. Arcane reserves refill naturally, often much quicker when resting.
Inritus: Term for beings with little to no sensitivity for arcane. This makes up the large majority of beings in Skylands. Arcane reserves comparable to a small glass of water.
Feid: Term for beings capable of lightly tapping into the arcane. Feids are able to reach into the arcane realm and touch the surface of its power, allowing them to use limited amounts of arcane. Specialize in only a handful arcane talents. Arcane reserves comparable to a tub of water.
Draocht: Term for beings capable of tapping deeper into the arcane. Draochts are much stronger when it comes to raw power. When tapping into the arcane realm, they can reach past the surface and draw deeper from it. Specialize in many different arcane talents, and unlike Feids and Inritus, can improve their arcane capacity through continued use. Arcane reserves comparable to that of a swimming pool.
Arcanomancer: Term for beings capable of tapping deeply into the arcane. While less powerful beings can touch or even wade into the arcane, Arcanomancers can swim in it. Specialize in many different arcane talents and have greater endurance. Arcane reserves comparable to that of a large lake.
Arcanum: Beings capable of tapping into a seemingly infinite supply of arcane. Arcanums exist in both the real world as well as the arcane realm, allowing them to heal at incredibly fast rates, making them nearly immortal. Only other beings that exist in both realms can truly injure or even kill another Arcanum. Most Arcanums are seen as gods. One can mimic the power of an Arcanum through the power of an Awakening stone or a sacrifice with Crimson's Dagger. Arcane reserves comparable to that of the ocean.
Not many in Skylands know of the term Arcanum due to the fact that there were only ever twenty in existence. These were the Ancients of legend — though most only know of The Seven.
The Seven
The Seven are the Aracanuns collectively known as the Ancients of Legend. The Ancients used devices called Rift Engines to populate the Skylands with thousands of different species. But it was taken too far with the creation of the Dark Rift Engine. This opened the world up to the Darkness, an evil being looking to destroy everything. The Seven worked together to banish them back to where they came from. They created the Core of Light, and eventually sacrificed themselves to seal the Darkness away.Aeter: The Ancient of the skies, often referred to as the Storm King. The Ancient that the Cloud Kingdom chooses to worship. Known for creating the legendary God King's Bolt, the powerful scepter wielded by each God King.
Cerebro: The Ancient of scholarship. Often prayed to by those seeking answers to questions in their lives.
Crimson: The Ancient of fire and mischief. Was responsible for the Dark Rift Engine. He is often seen as a counterbalance to the goodness of the other Ancients.
Malun: The Ancient of giving and creation. She created the mabu in the image of herself, the mabu being one of the largest populations in Skylands. Her teachings are most prominent in Mabulon where they focus on giving back to the world and those in need.
