"How do we know he's not possessed?"  Nate asked for the third time.

I don't know where Quinn found the patience. The twins always drove me nuts and to my detriment, the duo had chosen this exact night to return. Someone must've told them we were going hunting."The Marrok checked him." Quinn muttered.

"That was before." Aiden growled and in my mind I could see his nostrils flaring at Quinn.

"I heard she controlled Leon."  Zach threw in.

It set Aiden off into his conspiracy theory, "I think she needs to be around or near for it to be active. She's clever. She's waiting till he lets down his guard like he did with the other witch—"

Zach like usual, wasn't phased, "Can't we find him one who can only light candles and call this a day?"  The group went quiet, "Witches are his type, correct?"  I could feel him rolling his eyes, "Then all we need is to find one who's weak but experienced enough that she knows how to suck his brains out?" he half asked, half told.

I wasn't surprised when his brother humoured him, "Where are we going to find that?" My instincts told me it was because he was aware that my office door wasn't fully closed. The twins weren't that far in terms of intelligence but Nate thought things through a bit better and was more observant as a result of it. Zach was more of a live for the moment type.

"I volunteer!" Zach grinned.

Nate chortled and spun it around on his brother, "To suck his brains out till one magically appears?"

The group broke out in laughter. Zach was quick to put the pieces together but was at loss of a clever comeback. Nate brought his hand down on his brother's shoulder, "Way to take one for the team man. I always knew there was some fruit to you." Zach's jaw must've dropped, "Do you think you can open your mouth wider?"

I shook my head and lengthened our link a bit. I'd closed it off last night with Kaitlin for privacy reasons. It'd been a good call because they would've sensed my anger at the parasite's presence and misinterpreted what was happening.

The living room went dead silent. Quinn, my fourth, recovered first, "Do you feel that? I don't think boss is interested in your flat ass."

Zach's voice was gravel, My ass is not flat." For some reason, Quinn's comment had hit a hundred times harder than his brother's teasing.

Nate's voice was laced with amusement, "So you're interested?"

There was a loud crash followed by louder breathing. I walked over to the door and thought better of it as the grappling continued.

I shut my office door.

The backyard was buzzing with noise as the pack gathered for our monthly meeting. I was late and they'd fired up the barbecue without me. Poor Jared had been the one to bring me two plates and a cold beer. They knew who much I hate paperwork and Jared happened to suck at arm wrestling. I glared at the tiny print as I tried to work out how much all the land transfers was costing us.

A soft knock sounded on my door.

I didn't mean to snarl, "Come in."

The door popped open and slide about half way. Nicholas head hovered in the opening, eyes downcast, "Hi. Sorry. They said you wanted to speak to me. I can come back later—" half of his tense face disappeared and reappeared at my lack of response. His eyes trailed up the wall before floating over towards me.
