SOPHIE STARED AT THE little piece of white paper in her hands like it was her lifeline. The cursive writing, the formal words, the whole invitation was so not Keefe at all.

She looked up at Keefe, confusion in her eyes. He locked eyes with her and she passed a message through her eyes—she knew he would understand.

But why? her eyes seemed to say.

He looked away. "Look, Foster," he began, coming closer and wrapping his arms around her. "I want you and only you. You know that. It's just that Daddy Dearest wants—"

"But is this what you want?" she interrupted, feeling slightly guilty about it but too angry about Lord Casserole to care. "A Winnowing Gala, with tons of girls and boys that you don't even know, is that what you really want?"

"No," Keefe was quick to reply. "But..I want to make my dad proud for once. Just once, and then I can go back to destroying all of his stupid expectations and rules."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes Foster, I'm sure."

She cracked a smile. "Well, I'll see you on Thursday then?"

He mocked-hurt, pressing a hand against his chest. "Excusez moi! I'm still here for the rest of the day! Are you trying to get rid of me?"

She laughed, her stress forgotten as easily as that. It was like another one of Keefe's abilities, really. Making all of her stress go away in the blink of an eye.

Sophie pretended to think about it. "No, I guess not," she whispered finally, wrapping her arms around his neck and nuzzling their noses together, making her giggle.

Keefe smiled, wrapping his arms around her waist and giving her a soft peck on the lips. "Good, because I don't think I'll be getting rid of you for a while."

SORRY FOR SUCH a short oneshot! This was just supposed to be the "opening oneshot", or whatever you call it. Also, I don't think any of these oneshots will be as long as my other oneshot books. Maybe just snippets, or a little bit shorter. Anywho, hope you enjoyed!
