That morning at school you stayed with Maddy as much as you could. Especially after finding those bruises around her neck. Without even questioning her you immediately knew who cause such injury to her beautiful skin. Nate.

And to say you were livid was an understatement.

You felt as if you could commit the most horrendous murder known to mankind if you were to ever see that boy in the hall. No one could get you off of him until you felt satisfied with the result.

What made you even more angry was the fact that Maddy was beyond scared of telling on Nate. She had hugged you that night and begged you not to tell, she was bawling her eyes out. You have never seen her so broken and it broke you.

You had literally cried yourself to sleep last night after your conversation with Maddy. It pained you to the deepest corner of your soul that this was happening to her and you could do nothing but sit by. If Maddy didn't wish to report then Nate wouldn't be apprehended for his crime against her. It killed you inside.

He did not deserve her, at all! How he even managed to get someone as beautiful and pure as Maddy to love him was beyond you. Not even Albert Einstein could comprehend what he did to attract her.

"(Name) (Last Name), to the principal's office please."

You snapped your pencil in half as you heard your name on the intercom. You already knew what this was about. You were ready to tell and get justice for Maddy even if she didn't want to. You'd rather have Maddy mad at you for as long as she lives instead of having Nate end her life short when she had so much to accomplish.

As you walked into the office you were met with the crying face of Maddy and her pissed off mother. You faltered quite a bit seeing her pleading face. You could see it on her face, she was pleading with you, begging you not to tell.

Principal Hayes led you to his office in the back and set you down before sitting across from you. All he gave you was one look. You opened your mouth to speak, but closed your mouth as you thought of Maddy. Her teary face remained constant in your memory, but you knew it was for the better good.

"He did it. Nate harmed her."

Principal Hayes leaned forward in his chair and leaned on the desk, "Those bruises are old from what the nurse said. When did it happen?"

You sighed, you too sitting up in your seat all stiff as you clenched your sweatpants. Your hands began to turn red as your eyes stung. "At the carnival."

"Why are you just now telling someone?" Principal Hayed questioned. His eyes seemingly glaring into the deep, dark depths of your soul.

Another sigh escaped past your lips, "She had told me not to tell anyone. I respected her wishes at the time, but I did tell her that if the truth were to come out I would testify against Nate." You stared at the man, directly into his own eyes that bore into yours as well.

You two sat there for a couple seconds, a couple seconds which felt like thousands and thousands of years. It felt as if the staring was never going to end. The breathing you released from your mouth took over all your senses, the only thing heard was the exhaling from you and your loud heartbeat.

"I should've told earlier, but-"

"We will have this problem solved by the end of the day."

You gasped and finally blinked. Your eyes began to water, a small smile forming through your features. Was Nate finally getting punished? "What is his punishment, if I may ask, sir?"

Principal Hayes shook his head and leaned back in his seat, "I cannot tell you that, but just know there will be punishment." He began to stand up and walk over to the door. He opened it slowly, the first thing catching your eyes was Maddy's teary face. She stared at you in anticipation, wanting to know if you lied for her sake.

You put your head down, not saying anything as you stood up. You walked out the door and went to pass her and her mother when she grabbed your wrist. She rubbed it gently, another way of her asking you what was spoken between you and Mr Hayes.

You gently removed your wrist from her grasp and cupped her face with the same hand. You glided your thumb gently across her cheek and let out of a soft smile, "Have a good day Maddy."

You let go and walked off.

As you opened the door and made direct eye contact with the devil himself, the creature that caused you all to be in this situation. Nate Jacobs.

You two stared for a minute, his distaste for you evident on his face. You wanted to hit him, hurt him, kill him and drag his body on the ground until it turned to nothing but sand to be blown away by the wind. You loathed this boy.

You pushed his chest, effectively getting him out your way. Behind him, you spotted his parents who watched the entire altercation. You couldn't help but speak towards them.

"What a fine young man you two are raising." You tilted your head with a sarcastic smile and pointed towards Nate.

You let out a real smile when you saw the look on his mother's face, but the smile dropped quickly when you realized his father wasn't paying any attention to you. He was looking ahead of you. Swiftly, you turned your head to see Jules. She looked slightly scared to see him, and he looked scared as well. You wondered if they knew each other.

You paid no mind to it and went on about your day.

You tappped your fingers on the steering wheel as you waited for the light to turn green. It seemed as if it was going to take forever to turn. As you stared intently at the light you heard yet another ding to come from your phone which sat in the passenger seat. You grunted and bit the inside of your cheek.

It pained you to listen to notification alerts that came from Maddy texting and calling you. It hurt like hell. You wanted nothing more than to pull to the side of the road and reply to all messages and just call her back, but you knew you were not in the right state of mind right now. If you picked up the phone it would just be Maddy yelling at you for telling on Nate and it would be you screaming at her letting Nate slide with his abuse. It was for the better good, for right now obviously.

You pressed the gas once the light turned green.

Tired of the constant dinging coming from your phone you turned on the raido, literally blasting the music that came from the small box. "I'm sorry Maddy, I am so sorry Maddy."

Soon enough, salt tears fell from your eyes and cascaded onto your face. "It had to be done, please don't hate me."
