CHAPTER ONE
( CIGARETTES )
( ♱ ) ━━━━━ DAZAI OSAMU WISHED FOR SUICIDE. That was his only desire in the world, the sweet release of death. It was something he had obsessed over for years— even having a book of suicide. Though it had always failed; he had never once succeeded an attempt at killing himself.Today was another day for the dark haired boy; he was to attempt suicide once again.
Dazai sat on the edge of the river bank and looked down below. Past his feet were the raging waters of the rivers current. Maybe the river was to be his release. The thing that pulled his from the grasp of life.
"May this attempt be the last," he prayed quietly, his eyes clenched shut as he mumbled under his breath.
If this would truly be the end he couldn't be any happier. Nothing held him back, almost nothing. Those few who were close to him tried to show him support, but Dazai never once took it in. No matter how hard they tried to help the boy, he always rejected it.
Dazai Osamu never asked for their support. Dazai Osamu never wanted to be saved. Dazai Osamu only wanted to die.
He was ready to push himself from the edge and into the cold river but he was pulled away from that mindset. He heard a strange sound at that very moment and it threw him off.
The sound of humming.
It wasn't that it sounded terrible or anything, but it was the fact that he was about to possibly kill himself. It was out of place at that moment, if it had been minutes later it would be better.
Minutes later he would've hopefully been dead. Swept away by the river, water flooding into his lungs, his body fighting for oxygen above the waters surface.
But now it had failed, another failed suicide attempt. It was like every time he was on the verge of completing it he was stopped in an instant. This was no different from any other time.
Subconsciously, his body brought himself up from the edge and in the direction of the sound. He hadn't been in proper control for minutes before he finally woke up from his trance.
Along with the new location he found himself in; the sound was more clear to him and the smell of cigarettes became disgustingly clear. He nearly flinched when the smell first invaded his nose.
"Do you not like the smell of cigarettes?" The humming stopped, but he heard the words of a girl instead. "I could put it out."
