Not so perfect after all (KOTLC)

Chapter Two

"Grady? Edaline?"

Edaline's kind voice came from the pastures, "Izzy? Is that you?"

I smiled and walked out to the back door, only to see Grady and Edaline trying to wrangle Verdi into eating some new gnomish vegetable.

"Morning Izzy!" Grady called.

"Morning Grady, Edaline," I smiled. "Need a little help?"

"Are you sure you're up for it?" Edaline asked.

I feigned hurt. "Are you kidding? Verdi loves me!"

"Tell that to your scar," Edaline muttered.

Grady chuckled. "C'mon kiddo."

I ran over and grabbed hold of Grady's lasso, allowing him to feed the long stalks to the temperamental T-rex. Once she had finally eaten all of them, Edaline and I released our lassos and the three of us headed inside Havenfield.

Edaline conjured up a plate of Mallowmelt as we sat in the living room.

"What brings you here?" Grady asked. He added quickly, "Not that we're not happy to see you."

I chuckled lightly. "Just wanted to say hi. It's been too long."

"It really has," Edaline agreed. "How have you been?"

"Busy."

Grady chuckled. "Tell me about it."

"How's Sophie?" Edaline asked.

"She's fine," I assured her. "We took extra precautions to keep her and her friends safe."

"I'm assuming you can't tell us where they're staying?"

I shook my head. "If I could, I would."

I fingered my necklace.

Edaline broke the silence. "Are you staying for dinner?"

"I can't," I said softly. "I have plans."

"With who?" Grady pressed.

"What makes you think I'm going with someone?"

He raised an eyebrow.

"Fine. I'm going out with Juline for dinner tonight," I told him. "So no, I'm not going with a guy, if that's what you were wondering. I'm happy single."

Edaline chuckled. "Don't let us hold you back. Go have fun."

I smiled.

"You'll have to come over soon," Grady told me.

"I will."

I waved goodbye one last time and started the trek to Atlantis.
