Chapter 3

Sean

Today I woke up in a slightly better mood. I'm not sure if it's because my dad is gone or what.

As I begin to get ready my mind trails off to towards the end of the day class I have with Nova. I couldn't keep her off my mind and it was making me feel weird.

I decided not to eat breakfast and instead make my way to school. I try to keep my head down as I get on the bus but a few kids still glare my way and put their bags down beside them.

I sigh, it was always like this but I've grown to live with it, I won't be having to deal with it much longer anyway.

The bus finally drops off at school and I quickly walk into the library. I've been meaning to get a book but I've been so occupied. The old librarian gives me a small smile when I approach her desk with two books.

"How's your morning sweetheart?" I notice that she hardly had teeth.

"Okay, yours?" I ask.

She shrugs, "same as always."

She quickly checks out my books and before I leave I put them in my bag. I made it to my locker only to see Nova down the hall, I notice her friend was back and she looked even more cheerful today.

I found myself staring, the way she had her braids in a ponytail where it looks attractive when she moves. I've never seen her smile this much before and it's actually heart warming when her mouth isn't open. Just then I was shoved into my locker and turned to be faced with Travis, his buddies along side.

"Did you get my homework done, freak," he spits, balling my shirt in his hands.

"I told you I weren't doing it," I say. No matter how many times I tell these guys off, they always come back. Travis dad is like head of school board or something so he can basically do whatever but gets his way out of it.

"You don't get that option," he slams my back into the locker and I grunt a little.

"Travis!" Someone yelled his name and I see Nova step into the circle, people begin to watch with curious eyes and some even pulling out their phones.

He lets me go and turns to face her.

"What?"

"Leave him alone dickhead," I hear Nova angrily says.

"Or what? Just shut up and put my di-"

Just then Travis went curling over, cursing out in pain as he fell onto his knees.

"Bitch," he cried out holding his hands between his legs. Everyone is left shocked including me.

We make eye contact but it wasn't long before her friend came and dragged her away. I disappear from the crowd as people run up to Travis.

Dick riders.

The bell suddenly rings and I make my way to class. No one can tell but I'm actually left speechless. I never knew she had that side in her and honestly, it's attractive, it's like something out of a book.

I pull out my phone and notice I had a text on instagram.

@nova88
after class meet me in the library, 8:45am.

I stared at it for a moment.

"Sean," I look up to see my Math teacher standing in front of me. "Do I need to confiscate phones this early?"

"No," I put my phone in my pocket and he gives me a glare before walking away.

Just then something hits the side of my head and a paper ball falls at my seat. I sigh and kick it away looking over at Travis, he glares at me hard and so do I.

I've never been terrified of Travis, I'm more terrified of myself of what I'm capable of doing to him. He hasn't done anything for me to beat his ass so I just let him assume he has power over me.

It honestly keeps a weight lifted off my shoulders so I won't have to fuck him up.

He makes a you're dead hand gesture and turns back in his seat. I throw my head back and close my eyes. The day needs to speed up.
