Chapter 28

I was sitting in Pony's room with him when the front door creaked open. I heard my mom gasp slightly.
"Oh my gosh.." She muttered. I jumped up, along with ponyboy and ran downstairs. Standing in the doorway was a tall, muscular man with a dark work uniform on.
"d-Darry?" Pony choked out, running to him. I suddenly remember Darrel, Pony and Sodas older brother. He had been offered a job in Washington D.C., so his brothers had to find somewhere to live. My mom heard about it at the station and brought them to our house. A while later, we had gotten a call that he passed away. Darry pulled him into a bear hug, swinging him around.
"SODA GET DOWN HERE!! Darry I thought you were dead!" Pony exclaimed in disbelief. Darry shut the door behind him as soda came running down the stairs, eyes wide. He sprinted to his older brother, hugging him the same way ponyboy had.
"How..what..Darry how are you here?" Soda asked, shocked, tears forming in his eyes. Darry chuckled softly and sat down on the couch.
"The government had to fake my death. I was working in a very discrete organization and there were people coming after us, trying to stop us. They were tying to kill us." Darry paused briefly, remembering his work partner who was captured, tortured, and killed because he wouldn't give out the plans of the company. "My company hid a bunch of us away in cabins underground with no technology and no way to communicate with the real world. We were down there for months, maybe even years. When we got out, we found out that they faked our deaths until the other company stopped coming after us." Darry explained. We all sat there, shocked.
"So..pony, soda..I've come to bring you guys home."
