Round Cheeks avoided Deku the next day. Glasses was obviously confused, since the three of them would normally be chatting away before class started; While Tails and Deku weren't close, it was apparent Tails was trying not to look at him, gaze planted firmly on his table; Shitty Hair's gang of friends had approached the three of them, though the redhead was more nervous than usual; Half and Half was his cold isolated self, but Katsuki saw the wary glances he gave Deku.
It felt like middle school all over again.
Those were the ones who had actually seen what happened. The rest probably didn't know. From how Dunce Face and Raccoon Eyes were praising Deku, they were most likely only told that Deku had defeated the Nomu, not how. They were demanding the details, with Shitty Hair trying to change the subject.
Aizawa came in, all wrapped up in bandages like a mummy. Why was he still here?! "Midoriya," he addressed. Deku sat more upright. "Remember what Thirteen said before the villains came in?"
Deku nodded timidly.
"Your quirk is an important part of who you are, but it doesn't define you. You choose how you want to use it. So choose wisely, problem child."
"... yes, Sensei..."
"Moving on... your fight is far from over. UA's sports festival is approaching fast."
"But we just got attacked by villains... is it really a good idea?"
"The school believes that if we continue as usual, it will prove that UA crisis management is as foolproof as ever. I heard we'll have 5 times more surveillance than the previous year. It's also the greatest opportunity that you'll ever get, and will not be cancelled due to the threat of villains.
The nation's top heroes will all be there to scout members for their agency. Naturally, you'll gain valuable experience and popularity if you're scouted by a big-name hero. But your time is limited, you'll only get three chances to prove yourselves. If you're hoping to be a hero, this is an event you can't miss."
...
When lunch break came, the tension had given away to show excitement for the Sports Festival. Katsuki felt the same way.
At least until Katsuki turned around to hand Deku his lunchbox for the day. For a split second, he saw blood on those hands. He didn't mean to accidentally drop the box. Thankfully, it just fell onto Deku's table with a loud thud.
"Kacchan?"
Katsuki's breath hitched, "I'm fine."
That was when All Might popped up outside their classroom door, "Bakugou-shounen! Would you like to eat lunch with me?"
"Huh?" he glared at the hero, "The fuck you want?"
"That is such a disrespectful thing to say to our teacher!" Glasses reprimanded him.
"It's about... the thing."
"You should go with him," Deku told him.
Katsuki wasn't sure what to say. Deku knew about One for All now. Did that mean he could be included in his chats with All Might? That would make it easier instead of Katsuki having to relay the message to him later on. But...
'Would you like to be next?'
To him, Deku had never been a villain. After all, what was villainous about this ray of sunshine? Deku, who tried helping whenever he could, who looked like he could never hurt a fly?
Katsuki knew it wasn't true now. Deku had killed that... monster in the USJ mercilessly. It was one thing to hear assholes say things, but those words had to come from somewhere, right? Did Deku look as scary on that day? Viridian eyes darkened, almost a murderous glint in them? The dead girl - Hakucho if he remembered correctly, one of the popular rich girls - everyone claimed he killed. Was she crushed by the fallen building? Or did he kill her like he did the USJ monster?

FanfictionThe whole walk home was silent. Which was weird. Usually, Deku would be ranting about something. Then again, Katsuki could guess why it was so awkward between them now. It wasn't until they reached Deku's house did he finally speak, "Congratulations...
