"Dad, don't play games with me!" I snapped, my patience wearing thin.
He stared me down, with a grim look and I felt a chill run down my spine. He remained silent and gestured for me to sit in a nearby chair.
"Who is the girl?" he demanded in a cold, indifferent tone.
My eyes widened in shock as I suddenly realized who had done this to me. In anger, I clenched my fists and felt my pulse rush in my temples. I cursed Robert, Dad's favorite spy, for his recklessness, knowing that I was doomed to suffer the consequences of his actions.
"I'm not answering until you tell me why you are here" I shot back defiantly.
My father's face shifted into an amused smirk. He seemed to be delighted by my challenge.
"It's a special night tonight and I'd like us to spend it together," he replied cryptically.
"Special? What are you talking about?"
Dad leaned forward with a wicked glint in his eyes. "Now it's your turn to answer."
I was both frustrated and intrigued by my father's enigmatic behavior. But I had no answers for him so I just blurted out, "There is no girl."
The familiar feeling of dread filled my chest as the memories of Twisha rushed through my mind - her scent, her heartbeat...
Dad rose from his seat calmly and picked up his coat from the back of the chair. "Very well son, let's take this conversation to my place."
"Wait, where are you staying?" I was confused; there was only one five star hotel in this city and surely my father wouldn't stay anywhere else.
He gave me a sneaky smile, "Someplace where I am not disturbed."
There was no use arguing with him so I followed him out.
My head swam as we drove away from the city and towards the woods. The atmosphere inside the car was as dense as the trees around us. After about an hour, we arrived at a small cottage in the middle of nowhere. Dad stepped out of the car with a knowing smirk on his face.
"Come on son; this is our stop" he said with an air of mystery and anticipation.
My mind raced with questions but all that came out of me was "What? Here?? You're staying here??? Why???"
But I already knew the answer - he wanted to keep his secrets well hidden so nobody would ever find out...
I reluctantly followed my father inside. Despite the sweet exterior, something was clearly off.The cottage was small and charming, with a porch overlooking a meadow full of wildflowers. The moonlight shone through the windows, making me feel trapped in its beauty.
My father had gone to great lengths to make this place as comfortable as possible.I couldn't help but wonder why he had chosen this place to stay. After all, it was miles away from civilization.
He stopped suddenly and I almost bumped into him as I tried to catch up.I sat on the couch awkwardly, my thoughts brimming with questions.
"Make yourself comfortable. It is going to be a long night", his voice had an ominous tone while pointing at the chair opposite him.
On the table between us were bottles of absinthe - my father's favorite drink. I had never really been much of a drinker myself as alcohol never did much for me. I assumed that all the medication I took to keep my condition under control had made me immune to its effects.
