Chapter 7: Test

Skylar's POV

Today is the Day! We are going to have the start of the competition program. They even excused the competitors from having classes today. After arriving to the school, I went straight to the new Gym, to meet up with the rest of our group. Once I came to the Gym, which was the moment when I realized we have a big competition. It's not even close to the start of the Tests, and the Gym is already half full. I saw Brishen and Anita they were sitting in the corner of one of the bleachers. I went to join them; they always were the first once to be at school, in the morning.
"Hey, guys." I said with excitement. I was ready to do this competition because it would be fun, but also because Jace is here too.
"What's up?" Anita asked me.
"Nothin', just can't wait to get the Tests started." I said simply. Anita nodded, and continued to be doing something on her phone. Brishen waved me a hello and sniggled back with Anita.
I thought it was so cute, so I sweetly said, "Awwww, you guys." Anita gave me the look that said, 'Shut up, man.'

The rest of our team arrived later. We were all talking about what we hope to get out of the Test. Brandy, and I hopped to get the part in being the Marksman, which I think is like an attacking role. We all knew that Leo, the guy who agreed to be with us on our team, would have the Leader role. He was more experienced then us, and everyone seemed to like him. The guys became good friends with him in the first couple minutes he came here. Mari was talking with Ben, who obviously wanted to get back with Mari, but I don't know if she feels the same way. Mari and Ben used to date, but maybe for Mari it's a thing of the past. I wasn't involved in any conversations because I was texting Jace the whole time.
Once all the competitors were in the Gym, they began the testing. They called four groups at a time, and tested them in the changing rooms. We sat there probably for an hour, and then they finally called our group in. Everyone who was already got tested, could go home. I didn't know why.
I went into the girl's changing room, to get tested. There were four stools inserted in the room, and I had to sit on one. The woman in front of me took me through the steps of the process.
"Okay, honey. I am going to put these bracelets on your wrists; I will also put this head band on you. What will happen is, the wires connected to the bracelets and the head band will send electrons through your body. The wires are connected to my computer, and I will control what will happen to you. The electrons will put you into a trance, and in your trance I will simulate different situations which will determent your role, in your team." She said calmly, "It might hurt a bit at first, so just close your eyes."
I closed my eyes, and was ready for a sting to come from the bracelets and the band on my head. A couple seconds passed by, and I felt a pain in my brain, and in my blood as if something different was circulating through my circulatory and nervous system. All of a sudden after that I was in a field. The pain went away, and all around me I could only see grass. I saw a tree in front of me, and I had a temptation to go to it. I walked to it and touched it, it was a beautiful tree. But, when I touched it turned into ice. All of a sudden it started to snow, and everything around me turned into ice too. I turned around me and everything changed again, I was in the middle of nowhere standing on ice, then the ice began to shatter. It scared me; I didn't know what to do. I tried jumping from one iceberg to another, but each time it became more and more difficult. I jumped one more time, and I felt my stomach began to sink. I looked down and I was falling into the water. I felt the water take me in, but it wasn't cold. I began to sink, I tried swimming upwards, it didn't work. The water around me was a beautiful dark green color. Then I felt something by me, I didn't see it, but I felt it. I turned to see what it was, but I couldn't because the water is too dark. I began to panic, and then I realized that I wasn't breathing. Again, I felt something pass by, and this time I caught a glimpse of a fin. It was a shark fin!! I began swimming toward the top, I was panicking. I couldn't swim up, so I decided to face the shark. I knew this is a simulation, well at least that's what I tried telling myself. Then I saw the shark swimming towards me. Its mouth was open, and I could see the sharp teeth. I knew that I had to fight because I had no other choice. It was two inches away from me, and I hit it right in the eye with my fist. I wasn't that strong, but that's all I had. The shark immediately swam away, I was surprised. Then everything around me changed again. I was in space now. I could see the earth and the moon on my right. It was amazing. Then I saw something moving toward earth. It was a big ship. It didn't look like a human ship. And I could see them shooting things at the earth. I became concerned, so I moved towards the ship. I didn't know how I did, but I did. Then I saw ginormous creatures attached to the ship, I couldn't tell what they were. They noticed me because their heads turned towards me, well at least I thought it was their heads. All of a sudden they launched themselves at me. Before I knew it one of them was right in front of my face, it was hissing at me. All I could think was 'What the Fuck?'. I kicked the thing in the face and tried moving away from it, but I bumped into another creature just like the other. It wrapped it's tail around my leg, and began to pound its hands, with sharp ends, at me. Then I opened my eyes, and I was in the girl's locker room. I felt sweaty, and tired. The woman looked at me with a smile.
"Well, honey you should be a Marksman." It was all that the lady told me. I saw Anita was taking her Test in the stool next to mine. It looked as if she was having a nightmare. I felt bad for her because I couldn't do anything about it. I left the girl's locker room, and waited for the rest of our group to finish the Test. I didn't know what to think about the Test, all I wanted to is to go home.

Anita's POV

I was running through the forest, I didn't know why. But, I felt as if something was chasing me. I didn't know what it was, but I knew that I was scared of it. The whole thing felt like a nightmare, but I never have nightmares. I wasn't paying attention to where I was running, and I felt myself fall into a river. My swimming skills are horrible, and I began to panic as the river moved me down stream with it. I felt like I passed out, and when I woke up, I was on a sea shore. A thing was standing beside me. I didn't know how to describe the thing. The thing had four eyes, a body of a human, it's skin was dark green, and it's bones were sticking out. It was scary, it noticed when I woke up, and it began to pull me. I kicked and tried pushing the thing away from me, but it kept pulling me towards the woods.
"Get the Fuck off of me! You little shit! What the fuck?!" I kept yelling at it, but it didn't even flinch when I was kicking it. While he was dragging me through the woods I gave up on panicking. Then all of a sudden the creature ducked down under a bush and pulled me in, with it. He finally let go of me, and I was about to make a run for it, when I realized that he was hiding from something. I stood still for a moment trying to figure out what's happening, and then I heard footsteps. I looked around the bush, and saw humans in military suits walking. The creature became scared, and I understood what was happening. The creature was being hunted. But why drag me into this? The creature was two feet shorter than me, and I took it in my arms and held it. I was trying to reassure it that it will be alright. Once the humans came closer to our hiding spot they began to snoop through the bushed around us. Then I heard a beeping sound, and I realized that they had a tracker. Every time they came closer to us it beeped faster and faster. I didn't know what to do, and I knew they were going to find us eventually. So, I made a run for it. I didn't know how the creature dragged me because it is so small, but I didn't bother to think about it. I ran past the people who were looking for the creature, and I had the creature in my arms. He began to buzz the moment he realized I was running.
"Stop that, man you're scaring me." I told him as I jumped over bushed and rocks. Once the people saw me running, they began running after me. We ran for a long time, I was running out of breath. I tried telling myself 'Just a bit more Anita'. I still heard them running after us. In a distance I saw a clearing with tall grass. Well, at least that's what I thought. I knew that once I get into the grass, I can hide from them. But, once I reached the clearing, I realized that this is my dead end. It wasn't a clearing with tall grass; it was a cliff with tall grass around it. I walked to the edge of the cliff, and I didn't know what to do. The men in the military uniforms closed in on us, and I was preparing myself to give up. Then the creature began to buzz again, and as the man closed in on us. I felt myself being pulled of the cliff. The creature in my hands disappeared, and then I realized he has wings. And he was flying with me in his hands. Then I woke up. I felt tired, and just worn out.
The lady looked at me with a plain look and said "Your best role in the team is The Guard, to protect the leader." I nodded and she let me go. I walked out of the girl's locker room, and saw Skylar. She was leaning on one of the walls, she looked spaced out. The rest of our team was standing beside her, but she seemed like she didn't want to get involved in their conversation. I walked over to her, and nudged her on the shoulder, to get her attention. She looked up at me, and she seemed tired and worn out too.
"How did it go?" She asked me.
"I don't know, fine I guess. It was weird." I said wearily.
She nodded and asked "My mom is picking me up, wanna come? You know since we can leave and everything."
"Yea, I really need a rest." I replied.
We all decided on our roles before we left. Leo is our Leader. Skylar, Brandy, and Calvin are our Marksmen. Ben, Brishen, and Decker are the Tanks. Mari and Thomas are the Healers. I am the Guard.
Today was a very odd day. Once we came over to Skylar's house, we passed out on the couch. When I fell asleep, all I could dream about is the creature from my Test...
