Chapter 8: First Stage

Marielena's POV

It's our first competition fight today. Today's competition is called First Stage. Everyone was tired from yesterday's Tests. Me, and Ben started to talk again, but I'm keeping him in a friend zone for now. Since, now I'm back at this school, me and Andrew started talking again too, and I really feel like we could be something.

Everyone has to drink a serum today, to be able to participate in the competition. The officers who controlled the set up for the competition, said that the serum will temporarily give us powers. We'll have powers just like Skylar's lover boy Jace. After all the teams gathered in the Gym, and took the serum, the competition began. Today we'll be fighting 'Minions' and 'Bosses' as a team.

Leo, our Leader told us how to act in combat. He has experience, so we all agreed to follow his command. Thomas and me, we have to help the injured. Being the healers we have extra powers of helping people. I don't know how the powers work yet, but Leo said once the serum kicks in I'll feel it. Leo weighed most of the commands on Skylar, Brandy, Calvin and Anita. Anita is his Guard, so he kept telling her to watch his back, and Skylar, Brandy, and Calvin being his Marksmen had to listen to his commands in combat. At first when I joined the team, I didn't think we'll be this serious about it. Ben, Brishen and Decker mostly were ordered to defend people.

There was a dome around the whole basketball court, and they explained to us that this is our arena. The dome holagramed us into the arena, and we would be able to fight the Monsters without getting physically hurt. The dome was also see through. Before we could get into the arena, there were other people who had to go first. First a team of some seniors went. They went down to the basketball court, and sat in chairs, which were placed on the side. The officers placed head bands on them, and immediately all of them looked like they fell asleep, but when the arena came alive we saw then in the arena. Everyone was amazed with the arena. The first minion they had to face was a creature called Drang. It had a face of a bird, wings of a bird, but it also had four legs with claws. The moment I saw the thing, I was so glad we weren't first.

"Okay guys listen to me." Leo said in almost a whisper, so other teams wouldn't hear us. "This is Drang the first level minion. He flies in the air most of the time, and tries to grab the member of the team. It's simple to get him, we just have to use long distance attacks to get the thing down from air. And see those officers on the side over there?" We all nodded. "They're judging us, so no pressure, but we need to please them." I trusted Leo, he is the only person who knew much about this stuff out of all of us.

The senior group didn't know what to do. They lost three members to the thing. They were viciously grabbed and shredded by the thing. It was very gruesome, but that was what they told us to expect. Finally one of their attackers began to shoot fireballs at the thing, after about three fire balls the thing fell and died. Because they lost three of their members, they couldn't go to the next level.

About three teams went after them, and all of them weren't successful at completing the level. Then the fourth team got into the arena, and they were a group of junior football players. They got past the Drang without losing any members. On second level they faced a thing called Scarecrow. I could see why they named it that. It had a scarecrow head, it wore knitted fabrics, its right hand had needles attached to it, and it was human size. The Scarecrow was fast, and every time it got close to one of the guys it would puncture them with the needles, and the guys would just drop. There was a lot of blood from the puncture wounds, and I was surprised that I haven't puked yet. Leo told me that it was my Healer's powers.

"The Scarecrow is a fast and toxic attacker. Once he punctures you with those needles you'll get toxins in your blood. He is also fast. So, what I want you guys to do is, the Tanks have to be fast and try to protect Scarecrow's victims, Healers I want you to try and help whoever gets hurt. Attackers, just follow my commands in the arena." Leo told us, after the team of juniors was finished with.
