"Y/N oh my goodness you danced with a prince! Not just any prince but Prince Yoongi! Our future king!" It was a week after the royal ball and Naomi still would not shut up about it. It was all a blur for you but yes you do remember the prince and the way he spoke to you and danced with you. You were terrified the entire time. You wanted so badly to say no to his request, but you weren't sure if there was any type of punishment for denying a prince.
"Naomi. Please keep working, we have to finish prepping this soil." You scolded your friend for slacking off and continued to dig in the dirt and plant seeds out of your apron. Your garden was situated directly next to your house overlooking the main street of the village. It was a wonder why no thieves ever helped themselves to ripe fruits or vegetables from you garden but you we're thankful they didn't.
In the distance you heard the sound of a car approaching your house.
"Holy shit!"
"Language Naomi!" The neighbor lady yelled from her porch and your friend bowed and apologized. A limo like car stopped in front of your house, and you got a terrible feeling in your gut at the sight of it. The driver stepped out and opened the backseat door and out stepped Prince Namjoon and Prince Yoongi.Naomi was the first over to greet them much warmer than you ever would. Yoongi glanced over and caught sight of you. On your hands and knees digging through the dirt. You tried to pretend as if you hadn't seen them but of course Naomi called you over. You sighed and stood, trying to get as much dirt off of your hands with your apron as you could. You curtsied and welcomed them with a well-rehearsed greeting.
"May we come in? We have some things we would like to discuss with Miss Y/N." Namjoon smiled widely and Naomi practically melted at his dimpled smile. Naomi welcomed them in, and Namjoon followed her through the threshold leaving Yoongi and you out front. You turned and gave him a tight-lipped smile and gestured for him to follow you.
Once inside you realized how terrible this looked. Your house was small and falling apart. There were pots and bowls everywhere to catch any leaks should it rain. Your furniture was clearly very old and none of it matched nor was it comfortable. There was a faint cent of soil in the air since you and Naomi were always working in the garden.
The two of you excused yourselves as you both went to quickly clean up and change out of your work clothes. Silently you sat next to Naomi on the couch opposite the ones the princes sat on. They look wholly out of place.
"We apologize for intruding and interrupting your gardening ladies." Naomi shook her head at prince Namjoon and giggled.
"Your majesties are always welcome in our home. I'm more curious as to what the princes could want with Y/N." Namjoon looked at Yoongi who hadn't said a word the entire time. They exchanged a look and you saw Yoongi furrow his brows. They were communicating without words. Namjoon sighed and looked towards you forcing a smile."As you both know, the royal ball was in Prince Yoongis name. It was held in hopes of finding a suitable wife." You both nodded.
"Well," Namjoon cleared his throat and tried to pick his words carefully."I've chosen Y/N." Yoongi finally spoke up. Your eyes were locked onto his. He looked completely unbothered while you were trying to remember how to breathe. It was deathly silent. Nobody said a word as you two stared each other down.
Finally, your brain started to work again albeit not correctly. You started to laugh but stopped yourself remembering who was in front of you.
"I apologize but me? I'm a village girl. I have nothing to offer. We barely scrape by every month with selling crops from our small garden. What could his majesty possibly see in me?" Yoongi said nothing as you ranted. He was definitely not the talking type."I could never be a princess." You said looking down at your lap.
"Queen." You looked up at him.
"Pardon?"
"Queen. You will be queen after we marry. I'm heir to the crown which means you will be queen." Anger flared as you stared at Yoongi. The way he spoke was arrogant even if he didn't notice it."Who said I accept your proposal?" Yoongis lips tugged up in a smirk. His calm facade slipping at the sight of you challenging him. Before it could escalate Namjoon stepped in.
"You do not have to accept of course. In order for Yoongi to be king our mother made it her wish that he be married to a suitable princess in order to take the crown. That said, Yoongi made it very clear to our father that he wished for your hand in marriage." The anger simmered as Namjoon spoke."But I'm not a princess."
"I don't want a princess." Yoongis eyes had softened a bit. If you hadn't stared at them so long at the ball, you would never know the difference, but you could see it.
This marriage was for the sake of the kingdom. Maybe there could be some good in it. You wouldn't have to struggle anymore. You and Naomi could live comfortably finally. Sighing you lowered your head."I accept." Naomi gasped at your low voice and clapped her hands.
"I am relieved to hear that. On Saturday morning a car will arrive to escort Y/N to the palace to meet the King and our brothers. I look forward to seeing you both again soon." Namjoon stood and bowed, and Naomi followed him out talking his ear off though Namjoon didn't seem to mind. Yoongi grabbed your hand gently before bowing and placing a warm kiss to it just as he did at the ball."You do not have to agree." He spoke quietly.
"I know."
"Thank you for accepting. I apologize that you are being married off under these circumstances."
"It's the same for you isn't it. Neither of us are marrying for love. I'm not agreeing for you. I'm doing it so Naomi can have a better life. She is like a sister to me, and she is all I have left in this world." Yoongi nodded at your words."I understand. I am sorry I am not the one you love."
"I'm not sure I even believe in love honestly your majesty."
"Yoongi. Please, call me Yoongi."
You smiled genuinely at him for the first time."Alright, Yoongi. I hope you have a safe trip back."
Yoongi bowed and left without another word. You stood there before falling back into your seat wondering if you were still sleeping.
