They quickly reached the lobby and, once downstairs, used the main door to exit from there.
As soon as they tried to open the door, however, Rhonda's hearing detected a dull, timed noise...
As if it had been-
"Oh my fucking God! GET OUT, NOW!" she shouted, realizing what a cheap shot it was.
Upon hearing those words, everyone quickly ran toward the street....*KA-BOOM!*
It happened in a second:
An explosion enveloped the entire City Hall, engulfing it in a dance of flames in the darkness.
The shockwave violently pushed the survivors to the ground.
Meg, the lightest of the group, rolled several meters forward after being thrown off by that sudden bang, from which smoke and tongues of fire then began to rise all around.
"...Shit! I hope Wesker burns in Hell someday!" Liz muttered, holding up her aching head.
"Hey! Fuck! We can't stay here!" exclaimed JR, intent on looking around:
From where they stood, in the City Hall square, several of the citizens who were now puppets in the hands of the virus were gathering, some unarmed and with their hands outstretched toward them, others with work tools.
"Kill the intruders..." muttered one of them, a woman in her 50s with part of her face brutally disfigured, as if they had scratched over it with a saw.
"To hell with it... cover me, I'll open the way among these freaks!" shouted Rhonda, hurling herself with drawn swords at those cutting them off, who despite their gait moved like beasts in search of prey.
"Shite! Out of the way!" exclaimed Vince, moving forward along with the punk rocker, shotgun in hand.
He fired both the loaded shells in the barrels at a group near Rhonda's right, flinging them back and disintegrating them almost on impact.
Instead, the girl merely cleaved the air several times with the katana, and even cut off the head of one of them.
She was getting all smeared with the viscous blood of the creatures, not to mention remnants of flesh from the limbs and the heads she had severed, but it did not affect her much:
It was almost like water falling for her.
Meanwhile, Liz and JR went to quickly retrieve Megan, shooting at those who were getting too close.
"Hey, Meg! Can you walk?" the policewoman asked.
She nodded quickly, trying to get up despite the soot on her clothes and the pain from the fall...
And she saw to her enormous terror something behind the policewoman.
Meg took the gun in her hands without even thinking about it and fired a single shot, which passed just past Liz's ear.
She just hit one of the residents in the head, armed with a kitchen knife. O'Connell turned suddenly, and noticing what had happened, thanked the girl for the lightning rescue.
"Good shot, girl." commented JR.
"D... Did I really shoot without thinking?" she murmured, looking at her hand holding the gun...
Before being quickly pulled up by both of her rescuers.
"We all seem to be really losing our grip due to fear and disgust! I don't know if it's something good or not." commented Liz, then firing a couple of shots at another of those creatures as the group ran quickly down the road leading to the Hospital.
