They headed without qualms to the crossroads represented by the Central Pillar of the Hive.
This time, their destination was Sector 7.
"Be ready for anything." Liz urged them, readying her Benelli.
Vince followed closely behind her without a word, holding the chainsaw in one hand and crossing the bridge to the next area.
The goal was to obtain a weapon that could eliminate the Mastermind problem once and for all.
As soon as the automatic door opened, the group found themselves in front of a strange hallway:
It was long and painted metal-colored, although the presence of several bodies of researchers lying on the ground with some bullet holes on their heads made it even more sinister.
No doors on either side, and a sudden left turn.
The echo of the room and the pungent damp feeling of that environment was enough to make one think more of the habitat of some primordial beast.
"One researcher and four guests identified." commented the robotic voice on the intercom right away; "Welcome to Sector 7. Please do not approach experimental subjects under any circumstances and wear appropriate protective gear."
"Experimental subjects? Is that why you can feel all this moisture?" asked JR aloud as he was wiping his forehead.
"This kind of habitat can hide everything, from insects to reptiles." Liz explained, looking around.
"Simply, they have to maintain a certain temperature level to keep animals and species that need specific flora alive." Meg added, standing behind them.
Vince was the first to reach the end of the long corridor before the turn, followed by Rhonda...
And peering past the corner, he simply saw a huge mirror, intent on reflecting a reddish-colored water, as well as probably very dirty. It appeared to be a room devoted to observing whatever lay beyond the mirrors.
As luck would have it, nothing was broken.
"What's in there?" asked Romero, leaning slightly with one hand over his eyes; "I'm guessing: genetically modified piranhas."
"Five minutes..." murmured Rhonda massaging her temples; "...could you not fucking say some shit for five minutes?"
"Judging by the color of the water, something you wouldn't want to get into." commented Vince, standing at arm's length from those reinforced glass windows; "I don't think it's possible to distinguish something in the midst of that red."
"Maybe we're lucky and it's dead." Rhonda speculated, pointing with one hand to what appeared to be a large aquarium.
"Maybe we're lucky and it's the only kind of animals we're looking at." retorted JR; "Something that doesn't live out of the water, at least."
"Okay, okay, time up..."
Vince got in the way.
"This area is probably a giant aquarium, and I would therefore pray that we don't have to go through these canisters."
"We have to take into account any road, even the most dangerous ones." Liz retorted seriously, as she looked at the glass disinterestedly, since she could see nothing in it.
"And among these, even the possibility of ending up starring in a gore movie with big fishes?" asked JR.
"Don't you like sushi, champ?" retorted Rhonda jokingly.
"Not when I'm the dish, no ma'am." was the reply from the experienced cameraman, intent on trying to perceive even the slightest ripple coming from that crimson and perfectly still water.
