Once they passed the corridor and opened the door at the end of it, they found themselves outside in what was in effect the back of the RPD:

It was a well-lit heliport, which also gave light to the surrounding area.

"They were really ready for anything." commented JR, taking a brief overview of the place with his camera.

"Except for a zombie invasion." commented Rhonda reluctantly; "Other than... that thing we saw just now."

"Well... nobody expects this kind of stuff. We must head to the construction site, so I'd say we have to go this way."

Romero pointed to a set of stairs that probably led to an exit at the back of that station.

Vince quietly led the way, almost immediately preferring to take his chances in the darkness than wait for the arrival of another one of those long-tongued monsters that roamed inside the Police Station.

The others followed closely behind, keeping their eyes open and ears alert for any kind of danger.

Certainly, it could be said that the rain did not help in that area:

It was still thick and heavy, and it was enough to soak their clothes within seconds.

Archer did not even seem to care about that detail, nor did Rhonda.

The young punk rocker was more concerned about Meg at that moment, who was walking with uncertain steps forward, down the stairs, and over the outdoor clearing below.

She was still with her thoughts elsewhere and followed the others out of pure survival instinct.

Once they arrived beyond the rear gate of the Police Station, they continued walking down the road that led toward the alley that reconnected with the city streets.

Jonny then stepped forward, saying he would check both sides to see if the field was clear around there.

A few moments later, he made a soft cry of disappointment when he saw more of those creatures, gasping and trudging slowly through the streets.

"Just avoid them. At least, knowing that there are worse problems than them." urged Vince, then silently crouching behind one of the abandoned cars nearby.

The road, in the background, was blocked due to the work in the sewer:

It would have been easier to go in a straight line and take cover in the sewer system.

The problem lays in the presence of the zombies, scattered too vaguely to follow a single trajectory.

"It would be useful to have something to make noise and send them away," murmured JR in a restrained voice, also sheltering behind the car quietly.

"And how are you going to do that? Let's hear it!" asked Rhonda to the boy.

"I don't know! I'm thinking about it!" he replied, shrugging.

Megan, meanwhile, was looking around...

Until she saw something not too far from their feet and bent down to pick it up:

It was a chipped piece of brick, and it would have been suitable to be thrown quickly and without much effort.

Without warning the others, she tried to throw it straight to an expensive-looking SUV across the street, hoping to catch the glass.

It did not hit the hoped-for target, but the impact was enough to set off the car's alarm system, which immediately began echoing with a deafening combination of siren and intermittent horn.
