Once they were reunited and returned to their starting point - the Hive crossroads - all the survivors could truly hope for a cessation of danger.

"You took a big chance... both of you!" exclaimed Megan, wiping her glasses with a flap of her shirt.

Archer paused to catch his breath for a second, leaning against the central pillar and letting himself fall into a seated position.

"Nice save, Rhonda..."

After that, he handed the gun back to Liz, its rightful owner.

"What the hell was that big fish?!" muttered JR in surprise.

"An overly frisky big fish... that I hope will go the way of fried sticks." Vince replied...

Rhonda smiled wearily at Archer for thanking her, then, after taking a big breath, said:

"Well, I doubt it'll take much longer to bother with it anyway."

The policewoman loaded her last remaining .50 caliber round into the modified barrel of the Samurai Edge.

"Almost out of bullets... but then again, we are at the end, aren't we?"

"Hopefully... but don't worry, I'll take care of the baddies." Romero replied, despite having to note himself that he was left without too many bullets in his magazines.

"We have the BFW with us... of course it takes it to cool down, though!" exclaimed O'Connell, noting how the superweapon was not yet charged.

"I ran out of shots... And I've lost the chainsaw." muttered Vince; "I'm out, for good."

After that, he stood up slowly, stretching his neck.

"Meg?" asked Rhonda.

Meg still had enough shots in the chamber compared to the others, which is why she had to make sure to make them count and cover the others to the last.

"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's get this over with before somebody decides to send something else after us to kill us." Archer urged them...

Before starting to walk down the steps to the terrifying Sector 8.

They had to pass that in order to escape. And someone was going to stop them at all costs.

The small group descended the stairs until they reached the only available street:

A corridor apparently equal to the previous ones in structure and conformation...

If it wasn't for the nagging feeling of being as if observed by someone besides the Hive cameras.

The walls, however, were in a pitiful state, as was the floor:

There were corpses upon corpses piled on the ground, with conspicuous bloodstains splattered in bulk. And not only that:

There were increasingly visible and threatening messages as they advanced down the hallway.

"Of course she doesn't lack imagination!" commented JR in surprise, intent on reading those words, which on some occasions were very colorful and heavy handed.

And not only that:

The closer they got, the more they could feel like a mental force speaking in their heads:

"GO AWAY!"

"YOU HAVE KILLED EVERYONE, YOU MONSTERS!"

"STAY AWAY FROM ME!"

"YOU WILL NOT TAKE MY MOM AWAY!"

It sounded like a child's voice, but it was so distorted, echoing and cavernous that it was otherworldly and hellish in nature.
