"I don't know Chris cookie dough ice cream still sounds better to me," Marina said teasing the young boy walking next to her. They were heading to an ice cream parlor where they were going to meet Eddie who had been working a double shift and had asked Marina if she could take care of Chris.
"No chocolate is a lot better." The young boy argued.
"You only say that because you're still a kid, wait till you're older you'll develop a better taste."
"I'm not a kid, I'm a man," Chris said matter-of-factly puffing out his chest.
Marina chuckled "your right I'm so sorry Chris."
They arrived at the ice cream parlor and Marina opened the door to let him in first and stood in the short line. "How about we get your dad both flavors?" Marina suggested going back to the reason why they were even having their discussion in the first place.
"We should make him choose his favorite flavor and if I win you have to make me the chocolate cake you made last time."
"Fine, but if I win you have to help me bake the carrot cake you didn't want to help me with that other time."
Marina laughed at the disgusted face Chris made at the mention of the carrot cake he seemed to think about it for a second and finally agreed. "Fine deal" he extended out his hand toward Marina. She took it and they gave each other a firm handshake sealing their bet.
When they finished ordering they took their seats by a window and waited for their order to be called. "Ah, you two again!" The voice startled Marina and Chris pulling them away from their conversation. They turned in the direction of the voice only to see a tall older woman with long blonde hair, holding a milkshake. She was wearing a bright red dress with matching red heels, and she smiled at them brightly. Marina was confused raking her brain to figure out who the woman was. "You're wearing the bracelets I gave you, fantastic!" She clapped excitedly.
Marina looked down to see the pucka shell bracelet on her wrist and then looked at Chris who was also wearing his. That's when Marina realized that this was the strange woman from the beach.
"Will they really protect us and bring us luck?" Christopher asked the woman, also remembering her.
"Of course, they will." The woman who had yet to introduce herself sat her milkshake down on their table and took a sit next to Marina who was bewildered at the woman's bold move. "I made them myself; they are one hundred percent guaranteed to work."
Marina saw as Christopher's face lit subconciously rubbing the bracelet on his wrist. Even so, she was still confused about what was happening. "I'm sorry but I don't think we got your name?"
"Oh, silly me I always forget to do that." She laughed and Marina noted the uniqueness of it as it almost made her laugh too. "My name is Genevieve Morelove."
