The puzzle was made of nine rings, each with a different symbol on it.  There was a snake, a tree, a star, a wolf, a sword, a book, a crown, a lantern, and a rose.  Ben studied the puzzle, trying to figure out what to do.  After a few minutes, he noticed that each ring had a groove in it, and there was a stone in the center of the puzzle. He carefully placed the stone in the groove of the snake, and watched as the rings began to turn.
As the rings turned, Ben noticed that a section of the wall behind the puzzle was beginning to open.  He watched as a hidden doorway appeared, leading to a small room beyond.  Ben cautiously entered the room, his heart pounding.  The room was dark, but he could see that there was a pedestal in the center, with a glowing orb resting on top of it.  Ben approached the pedestal, and picked up the orb.  The moment he touched it, the room began to shake.
As the room shook, Ben held on to the pedestal for support.  Then, a deep, booming voice filled the room.  "You have passed the test of knowledge,"  the voice said.  "Now, you must face the test of courage."  Ben looked around, but he couldn't see where the voice was coming from.  "What kind of test?"  he asked, his voice quavering.  "You will see,"  the voice said.  Suddenly, the floor beneath Ben's feet gave way, and he fell into the darkness below.
Ben landed with a thud, and he was disoriented.  But as he stood up, he could see that he was in a large cavern, filled with stalactites and stalagmites.  And in the center of the cavern, there was a pool of glowing green water.  He was drawn to the pool, and he saw his reflection staring back at him.  But his reflection began to change, and it took on a monstrous form.  The creature that looked back at him was a twisted version of himself, with glowing red eyes and sharp, jagged teeth.
The creature snarled, and the sound reverberated throughout the cavern.  Ben's heart was racing, but he knew that he had to face the creature if he wanted to pass the test.  The creature lunged at him, and Ben had to think fast. He remembered that stalactites could be sharp and dangerous, and he quickly ducked as the creature swung its claws at him.  The creature's claws struck the stalactites, and they shattered, raining down around them.
