My heart was beating double the speed that it normally was when we leapt onto he front yard of Havenfield.

"Mr. Forkle?" I asked, stopping us in our track.

"Yes, Ms. Foster?"

"Do you think you could wait out here for a few minutes?"

"Of course I was going to do that in the first place."

"Thank you," I said, walking up to the front door. My hand was shaking and I raised it to knock on the door.

I didn't even have to wait a second before Grady and Edaline both answered the door. The second they opened the door they both tackled me in a hug.

"Do you remember us?" I head Edaline ask with tears streaming down her face.

"Of course I do. I missed you guys too, but I do kind of have to breath."

"That's right," I heard Grady say.

Edaline cupped my cheeks with her hands and looked me in the eyes, with the biggest smile on her face. "My beautiful Sophie, all grown up."

"I pretty much look the same as last year." I said

"Have you seen yourself. You look like a woman now."

"She is now, she's 18." Said Grady. "You're not a kiddo anymore."

"I'll always be your kiddo," I said, hugging them this time.

I turned around to Mr. Forkle, "I'm going to head back. Get a good night's rest and I'll see you tomorrow." He said before leaping back to who knows where?

"Are you hungry? Or thirsty? I can whip something up quick."

"I actually ate a few hours ago so I'm not really hungry."

"Okay, well why don't you get settled on the couch and I'll make some tea."

"Thanks, Edaline."

"It's so nice to hear your voice," said Grady when we finally sat down on the couch.

"Yours too."

"How was the human life? Make new friends? Any boys?" he asked with a stern look on his face.

"Of course that's the first thing you ask," I said, shaking my head. "But no. No boys."

"Okay good."

"Sophie, I have to ask," Said Edaline when she sat down next to me and handed me a cup of tea. "Why did you do it?"

I sighed and suddenly the tea in my hand was the most important thing in the room. "I can't tell you that. All I can say is that I was threatened with the people I love and I couldn't let that happen?"

"So they made you erase your memories and run away?" Asked Grady.

"No, this person made me stay away from this thing, and I knew it would be impossible to stay away, I couldn't trust myself to stay away."

"Sweetie, you could've told us that, we would've done something," Said Edaline, grabbing my hand.

"No I couldn't have," I said, starting to tear up. "You would've stopped me and then something bad would've happened."

"Then why are you back now? Why is it safe now?" Asked Grady.

"Mr. Forkle told me that this person is not as much of a threat as they used to be."

"I just need you to promise me something," said Edaline. "Next time somebody threatens yours or the safety of the people you care about, don't run from them. Tell us."
